I'm trying to find out what the best weight for Hazel Nut would be. When I first rescued her she was 41lbs, then after about 2 months she was up to 48lbs. The vet recommended 45lbs. I have switched to a weight management food, but she seems to be hungry all the time. Any advise would be welcomed.
Thanks
Weight is just a number
Since Bulldogs vary so greatly in length, width, heigth and bone mass, it's impossible to have a set number for them all. I have 4 bulldogs, 3 girls and a boy. My boy is naturally larger and looks his best at about 65 lbs. My girls vary greatly and their best weights are about 38, 52, and 55 lbs.
With Bulldogs I have learned it's more about how they look than their actual weight.
agreed...
weight can be so different. I think if they have a waist and not totally round like a barrel, it is a good weight. Rex has been as much as 65 pounds, but his waist appears at 59 pounds, so I try to keep him there. The vet says 57 would be better for his built. Rex seems to be hungry all the time when my husband is in the kitchen because he likes to give him treats. But when i am in the kitchen Rex doesnt come crying for food because I never got in the habit of loving him with food, I love him by kissing his face 100 times :-D

we just had a very good discussion about this
and the breeders gave some excellent visuals to help decide what's a good weight.
The key points I got were:
you should be able to feel their ribs easily.
they should not be a continuous tube from where their ribcage ends to where their back legs start. They should have a distict tuck up.
when viewed from above they should have a distinctive waistline.

I took a picture of her body
I took a picture of her body shape, the link is above (couldn't get it in a response). Is that what you were talking about?
From that photo
It looks as if she could carry 2-3 more lbs.
Here is the recent weigth discussion
