We lost our Winston

I've posted on and off in this forum with health related questions for the last 5 years or so; not a lot I know but everyone was always helpful. ![[linked image]](http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff148/fano3/WinstonBully.jpg)
I just wanted to tell you that on Weds, April 22, we lost our baby boy Winston (aka Bubba), who succumbed to congestive heart failure. He was 3 weeks shy of his 12th birthday. He was a special needs bully who for the past 3 years did not have the ability to walk - he lost the use of his back legs due to a degenerative spinal condition - and so I would have to carry him around. He was as kind and loving a creature that ever walked this earth. Everyone who met him fell in love with him and he them.
He never suffered, never lost his will to live, or his spirit, enthusiasm, playfulness, and desire to be with us. That all changed last week when he stopped eating and just wasn't the same old Bubba. On Wednesday he was in distress and he gave us "the look." It killed my wife and I to have to put him to sleep - we were wistful in hoping he would die of old age one night in his sleep, but not naive to think we wouldn't do what was right by him. He was everything to us and we miss him terribly. Our home is empty and lonely without him. We adopted him back in 2002 when he was 4 years old from a military family that no longer felt they could give him the time or the care he needed (when we adopted him he had severe ear infections which cleared up within 3 months of our care). Looking back we believe it was fate that brought him to us as we poured every ounce of love and care into him so he could have a great life; one he probably wouldn't have been afforded had he stayed with his original family. He brought us so much love, joy and happiness - he changed us and our lives forever. He was not just a dog but a special member of our family. Goodbye sweet Bubba, we love and miss you. Thanks for listening and for past advice/help. We agree that one day soon we will adopt/rescue another Bully once the pain of losing Winston is less painful.

Our prayers are with you and your bully and hopeful he's still living the best life. Is he on any heart meds for the CHF? We had great success with Enalapril with Winston.

Sorry for your loss
I also recently lost my bulldog Winston. My Winston was 10 years old when he was diagnosed with lymphoma, he too never lost his will until we got the same look you describe. I miss my Winston everyday and I know to well how painful this all is.
You where a wonderful bully parent from what I can tell my prayers are with you during this difficult time.

I am so sorry to hear about your terrible loss. I will keep you and your wife in my thoughts and prayers. We too are going thru a very similiar situation with our 12 1/2 year old boy who also has congestive heart failure it is so heartbreaking your love story sounds just to similiar except we have had our boy since he was a puppy. I can so relate to everything your said.......I will be thinking about you and again I am so sorry for the loss of Winston he sounded like a real special boy and I am glad you and your wife gave him a great life. loss. i too lost my bully to heart failure january 6,2009. he was only 3 1/2 years old. it's hard, but you will love another bully one day:)

Winston was obviously very loved. I am sorry for your heartache. I know that it doesn't seem possible but time does help us with loss.

My heart is breaking for you...
and as I sit here with tears flowing after reading your post and thinking about how you must feel...you know you did the right thing. Bubba had a very good and long life because he had a wonderful mom and dad who rescued, cared for and loved him. I know you must be feeling a void in your hearts. The best way to help heal that void is to fill it with love for another rescue.

I am so sorry for your loss, they really do take a piece of your heart with them. Take comfort in the fact that he is now running and playing, very happy and healthy over the bridge. One dya you will ber with him again, and he will come and get you with big wet kisses!
