The drama-filled rescue tale of a little old bullie named MOE!

It all started with a phone call from one of our volunteers: I have a bullie in my yardwell now hes in my bathroom. What do I do? He was wearing an expired rabies tag, but no ID. Our volunteer did a search on the tag number, but the phone listed was not in service. So we called the shelter and asked them for some more info on this little guy so we could hopefully reunite him with his family. Well, we got another number and a little more info: this was not the first time Moe had been found as a stray! So we called the ownerAre you missing sumbully? She had no idea what we were talking about even after we had to specifically ask if she was missing a dog. We waited on the phone while she roamed around her house calling Moes name. We knew he wasnt there.he had been with our volunteer for over 3 hours! Once she realized that her dog missing, she did not even ask if he was OK or where we found him. She began chatting away about her other dog and kids. When we asked if she was concerned that her dog was gone, she had the nerve to yell at US! What did we do? We were safely containing the dog she didnt even know was gone from her home! Needless to say, we ended the conversation by telling her she would now have to take it up with the county. The next day, we drove Moe to the local shelter (OK so we might have chosen the one that was farthest from their house) and they entered him into the system. Many people asked us to just keep Moe. Trust us, we wanted tobut thats illegal. In order to continue saving these dogs, we must play by the rules, even if we dont like it. Moe had a home, and we could not just keep him, but we wanted to be darn sure that it went on official record that this was the 2nd time their (unaltered) male bulldog was found roaming the streets! The shelter immediately contacted the family to let them know their dog had been turned in. Long story short, Moe hung out in the shelter for 5 days waiting for his family to come get himand he had a ball! Running all over his kennel run, hopping on his bed like a trampoline, bouncing around like a happy little pup. If you didnt notice the cold cement floor and chain link walls that surrounded him, you would never know this happy go lucky little boy was in a shelter! Moes 5 day hold was up and sure enough, his owners never came to claim him. Moes release day fell on a day when the shelter was closed, but the kennel manager made special arrangements to open and meet us at the shelter just to let us pick Moe up! Unfortunately he is showing signs of kennel cough and he stinks (although the smell of shelter is actually better than the stench he carried with him when we first found him! How sad is that!)  Once healthy, Moe will be neutered and on his way to a furever home! [linked image][linked image][linked image]

it is just amazing that they simply left him at the shelter! I sure hope he finds a wonderful home, it sounds like he has an awesome personality.

Way to go Erica!

Sometimes it makes ya pull your hair out, but when the babies lick your bald spots, from gratitude, it makes it allll better! Good job!

Perserverance isn't a long race.
It's a series of short races,
ran one after the other.
