HIPAA is a pain in my patoot!

I work in regulatory for a research organization. And I'm so tired of being compliant. We had a bomb threat in our building... and we all ran back quickly to turn our charts over on our desks so the info was all face down! How ridiculous is that?!

I do however have the office HIPAA Hippo! I found a gentleman wandering around by our file room and asked him to leave and was awarding the Compliant Hippo. Hee hee.

I work at Childrens Hospital in Boston in the Cardiovascular and Heart Transplant programs. Total different work but many of the same problems with funding etc!! I truly hope you find another job in the same area- it takes a very special and talented person to do that type of work!! Good luck! -ann

I loved my job and can not find another one like it at the moment that is hiring because everyone is facing cuts. I worked 2-8pm.

My clients were cronically mentally ill-in and out of the hospital often(hopefully less often). We taught them daily living skills, cooking, grooming, anger management, symptom management, sexuality classes, current events, and we also did social activities such as going to the movies, out to dinner, going to the mall etc. I really enjoyed the people and the groups-I learned as much from them if not more in my year and a half there as they prob did from me!

It wasn't all fun there were days were people were extremely psychotic, suicidal, homicidal etc but there were so many more good days and the fact of the matter is most of my clients were complient but there meds wern't always working optimally for them! I truly saw the limitations of public health vs. private health care.

Again, it was an intersting job and I loved it. I hope to come back to it someday!

Those HIPPA regulations can be tough. I was laid off not quite two weeks ago(lovely budget cuts in IL in mental health got rid of my program at the agencey) but a few months before that we had a seminar on the new laws(I worked in outpatiend mental health). Let me tell ya they were broken almost everyday...talking about clients in the hall not behind closed doors, locking charts behind two locked sources, locking them up before you run to the bathroom...hmmm yeah right too much time when you have so much to do. So I can understand your frustrations-
