I've been feeding Lucy a cup and a half twice a day. Do you guys feed only once a day? How much? Does once a day/twice a day matter? She also weights 51lbs and I don't want her to get fat...

they can go out to potty, but shouldn't be exercised or played with after they eat. Walks meaning several blocks or like us we will walk Norbert up to 2 miles.

but was experiencing head tremors with my female fairly regularly and noticed my male on one occasion. I have taken Helens advice about a year ago and I have noticed a huge decrease in episodes immediately and have not seen a head tremor in over six months on any of my dogs. I am a believer!
In all of the books I've read it says take bullie out right after eating so they can eliminate. Especially in the morning. I'm in routine of going dwonstairs...feed Lucy in her kennel. Soon as she's done, we go for a pee/poop run and then back. Are you saying I should keep her in for an hour after eating?
and leave out dry in a bowl. Not sure how much she eats per day that way, but she will occasionally at nite get up and have a small dry food snack. I think she wants/expects to be fed twice a day.

with my last 2 dogs I feed twice a day after they are past the puppy stage, about 1 yr. Norbert is not a big eater and is picky so he always has food left in his dish. I really think it depends on the breed of dog and the individual dog. Some may do better once a day and some twice a day.
I feed 2 times a day and whenever I sell a pup I tell them that also as my first Bulldog Punch had the head tremors from low blood sugar and an old vet told me to feed 2 times to eliminate them. It worked so I don't wait for a problem, I feed 2 times. Also a vet at the Columbus emergency vet told a friend of mine to help prevent bloat you should feed 2 times a day with a calm period after eating. This is for deep chested dogs they are the ones that are prone to bloat.

We feed twice a day. Our breeder said they should be feed twice a day. I always have fed all my dogs twice a day with a little treat mid day. I had healty and happy dogs with long life spans.

Also I do not let them run or play one hour before or after meals...or right after a walk...Bloat is deadly ..and you have very little time..once it starts...good point to bring up...blessings...ce
ps... as soon as I'm done with Robins galleries ..I email my repley...you little dickens...chuckle..

I have always fed twice a day. Never liked the idea of a dog having to eat all their food in one feeding. It's alot of food in their stomach, it must be strenuous on the digestive system. I would not want to eat all my daily food in one meal either.

advise if the bully breed is susceptible to bloat? I've heard and read that deep chested dogs are most affected that eat once a day, and onset begins while romping. We've been feeding Arthur 2.5 cups in the am and pm., and Lionel gets 1.5 cups 3 x a day to prevent it. I've talked with my vet, and although she is highly skilled and competent, she's not a bully vet and I'm not familiar with any. Again Kandace, good question and thanks.

Rocky will be two in September and I still feed him twice a day and always will. I just think it's healthier for them and helps maintain more stable levels of blood sugar and metabolism and all. Specific amounts of food depend on what food you are feeding. Rocky is on Natural Balance Duck/Potato and gets 1 1/4 cup twice a day.
I feed in the evenings. I feed what the dog food maker calls for unless I am working on the dog losing a little weight. This works for me but many feed twice a day....
My dogs are not fat - cannot be so to show. Plus I exercise my dogs with walks. They don't get hungry being fed only once a day because they do get treats at other times during the day.

I advocate twice a day because bullies are known to have blood sugar problems... tremors, seizures... the more food in their tummies more often, the better.
NO Run
Out to eliminate is fine but no heavy exerciseing
About 1 hour give or take N/M

No Kandace I don't think so.....

Calm Period
Helen, how long of a "calm" period are you talking about?
I too used to feed once a day...

Never heard of this bloat....Contradicts what's in Bullie Books?

Not sure if I am uneducated about feeding dogs, but..
I feed once a day and it works for me. I have talked with many an old timer who does the same thing. My dogs do get other treats during the day.....

Great subject, Kandace...brings up a major question, can anyone.

Feeding once a day
When I was young and uneducated about feeding dogs, we only fed our dog once a day and boy it was a dandy meal!!!
Learned that was not a good thing to do, big chested dogs/bloat etc. How would you like to only eat once a day?
We feed twice a day and try to keep it about 12 hours apart.

I think you're FINE.
