won`t walk home

Mr. Higgins has always loved the great outdoors. He knows all the routes in the neighbourhood. When we have to go home from a walk he simply puts the brakes on.This has developed into a habit now. I do not want to be getting mad at him. He is not that food driven and putting p.butter on a spoon would be labour intensive, also I have a bad back.He can wiggle out of his collar, also his buddy belt harness when he pulls back. I figure I will start taking his stroller and let him have a great walk, then pop him in to head home.I suppose I will eventually get skinny!! These bullies should have their brake systems patented for sure he he.

thanks for the replies

our bullies are so silly. Yes, he has had 3 knee surgeries in the past with a patella removal (hence the stroller in the past). He is on tons of joint supplements and actually walks perfectly well. Vet cannot believe how well he walks. We know that will not be the case later on. He is 5 and always been a very active boy. I do watch his activity re: the unstable knee joint like stairs, hills etc. He seriously thinks he is a border collie, always has. The guy is not tired. He just wants to stay outside and loves it. Vet wants at least 30 min walk per day to keep the bones/muscles strong and not at risk of injury.
So the stroller it will be.
I will replace my collar and harness since he could lose his life if he got away and I would just die.

take the stroller or find a short block you can go all the way a

buy a martingale collar. They work best for our breed. Get a different harness he can't back out of. Premier make the "Sure Fit" that is escape proof.

I have the same problem with my dogs on a walk. They love to go, but they don't want to turn around and go home. We bribe Junior. When we try to turn around and go back home, he plants his feet and looks at us until we come up with something he thinks is worth returning home for. As soon as we say what he wants to hear, he runs home. "Cookie" worked a few times. For a while it was "pumpkin." Lately "new toy" gets him home. He's totally spoiled.

I take the stroller with Roxy because nothing short of dragging her will get her to turn around.

The best part of my life with animals is the humility they teach and the humanity the foster.

You might try....

shortening the walk. Maybe it's a tired thing more than an attitude thing. That would be my first suggestion. Beyond that having a vet check his joints for problems?
