why are some people so ignorant

that they think is is ok to just let their dogs run free, walking and doing their business in other people's yards, I took lily for our morning walk today, and there was 3 dogs running free, well to say the least Lily went nuts, I had a hard time getting her home safely with out a fight, she hates all other dogs, I just dont understand, do they think because we live in the bush that it is acceptable. I have never seen these dogs before, thak god they were not aggressive towards Lily, If they had been we both could have been seriously injured, I called the municipality and was told if I dont know who owns the dogs there is nothing that can be done. I take such precautions to make sure my babies are not a bother to anybody, they have a fenced in back yard, and are always on a leash with me when outside, or on the front porch they are gated off.

by I am some pissed off.
thanks for letting me rant

I wouldn't be shocking my dogs either

not going to happen. But I'm not going to let my dogs outside without me either. I can't afford to fence in my yard, but even if I did I wouldn't leave my dogs out because they won't go without me.

very maddening

I try to make sure Lily & Rocky are safe, to only find other dogs in my yard, not in the fenced in area but in my yard just the same.

[linked image]

CathyandAudrey's picture

my dogs would get out no matter what

that's why I am not too eager to spend $5k on a fence. Climb over, dig under, or bite a hole and go through. My dogs will NOT be outside without me, I have to go with them.

well here is what I think of them

the owners should put the collare on and get shocked, maybe then we would see more actual fences going up, and keeping all dog safe.

[linked image]

unbelievable

first glad your ok , but I agree, I had one neightbour, walks his mastiff on a leash, really nice dog,we were walking towards each other, he crossed over to my side of the road, I asked him to keep jack away as Lily doesn't like dogs very much, he said no problem its ok, let his dog close to lily , she got him on the nose, I said how sorry I was, but why did he just not listen to me, it would have been much better, oh yeah I did try to keep lily at a safe distance, but he released jacks leash.

CathyandAudrey's picture

a lot of people here have invisible fences

so there is no physical barrier to keep your dog out of their yard, but their dogs can't get to the street to get your dog. My dogs go outside with me all the time, in MY yard with no leash, and they will bark if they see another dog, but they listen to me and won't run out of my yard. The town/county property lines here are so screwy, my property is "town", with a leash law, but right across the street isn't, no leash law, and if I walked my dogs 90% would be county/no leash law. So it's up to individual dog owners to know their dogs' abilities to handle a situation with a loose dog confrontation.

Re: Whats even worse....

[linked image]

yup

country mantality, but only 10 kilimeters away in another municipality (St. sauveur) a tourist town, people always bring their dogs, and everyone of them is on a leash, and I am talking alot of dogs, there are dog walkers, but if a dog is found off leash, it is picked up and when you come to get your dog you get a hugh fine,

[linked image]

unreal

why dont people think it is important to keep their pets safe, or vaccinated, my thoughts are if you own a dog you are responsible for it, keeping it safe, and healthy.

[linked image]

agree with you on that

I am not afraid of dogs, but I am scared of what will happen with lily should one get to close, she does not like other dogs, so now I am wondering where I can walk her and be safe at the same time

don't understand people at all...also we have people that know t

their dogs dig out of the yard and still do nothing to fix that and they run all over the place~~~!!!

the country mentality

just flabbergasts me! People think I am CRAZY to keep my dogs inside all the time, to them a dog is an outside thing. They don't vaccinate, or take to the vet at all for that matter, if the dog dies it's an easy replacement. They have absoluely NO regard for the dogs comfort or welfare and treat it like a toy more than a living being. I almost got in a fist fight at Burger King when I first moved here because some seemingly nice and respactable woman was so casually talking about how they MIGHT have to break down and take their dog to the vets because when her husband tied a rubber band around it's tail to amputate it it didn't work right and got infected. I yelled at her, "What in THE HELL is wrong with you?!" and she was floored that I was so upset! I let her have it and called her and her husband the worst kind of barbarians imaginable, she honestly couldn't understand what the probelm was, it's JUST a dog. My vet told me he sees it all the time, and they also do that to castrate males! UGGG!!

so very true

i use to loove picking up the droppings in my yard before i got my babies, and then on the other hand I have a neighbour who is always out withy thier dog, on a leash, really well trained, and picks up after her, wish there were more like them

[linked image]

I HATE that!!!

I have been charged numerous times by loose dogs, even when they are in their own yard, and having Akitas it was not a good scene! I always knew that even if their dog ran out at mine, my dog would get blamed because of the breed. And....how about when people are walking thier dog off leash and you say, "Could you hold your dog? My dog doesn't like other dogs." And they say, "OH THAT'S OKAY MY DOG IS REALLY FRIENDLY" and they let their dog approach you anyway! OMG that totally pisses me off.

A couple years ago I was walking Timber (shepard mix), Quinn (mastiff) and Suki (akita) and a sheltie came charging out, completely quiet and low to the ground. To make a long story short Timber had that dog by the throat, I had to let Quinn and Suki loose, while I tried to get Timber off the sheltie. I was kind of panicked because the sheltie was screaming and Timber was shaking her. I thought he was killing her. I stupidly put my hand in there and Timber bit my hand really hard. I got him off, but there was blood everywhere (mine, as it turned out)and lots of commotion. My hand got really swollen and infected and I play guitar in a band. The sheltie was totally fine! I think her ruff protected her. Nobody would help me get my dogs, Quinn was sniffing at someone's front door (LOL) and Suki was sniffing around across the street (she was deaf at that point, luckily for the sheltie). I was walking my dogs on leashes on the street. GRRRRR

Okay, sorry for the rant, I just hate it.

Whats even worse....

are those same people bitch and moan and whine about how their poor dog got hit by a car and how heartbroken they are over it! I hate stupid people. They are the same people, by the way, that are bundled up jackets and hats at Walmart or the grocery store with their babies/kids who have on no shoes or socks- or even pants sometimes... no jacket or hat... and then cant understand why their kids are always sick! Animals should be leashed or fenced in when outdoors. Kids should be fully clothed -to include socks and/or shoes- even if they arent walking!! -And you cant talk sense into these people either!

It amazes me how confident some people are in their ignorance. Just pisses me off so bad I have to walk away. (ok Im done with my rant now! lol)

my aunt lives in the country

and I don't think I have seen a dog on a leash out there for my whole life. It drives her nuts because they all end up in her yard - her kids play with them and look after them and make sure they are fed and such. But it's scary to see a giant rottie/shepherd/something bounding at you from across a field, gums a-flappin'!

I think lots of country people don't see the "point" in leashing their dogs. And sadly they are also just as cavalier about it when those same dogs get maimed and killed - like a dog is just another thing. Breaks my heart sad.gif

CathyandAudrey's picture

no leash law here

so it's pretty common to see dogs running around. I don't have a fenced in yard, I can't afford a fence, but I don't let my dogs out without me, and they never leave my yard. My dogs do listen to me if they happen to see another dog when we are out, but I do NOT understand how anyone could just let their dogs run on the streets! We had a little dog freeze to death in our fish pond, had to pick it out of the ice with a shovel and deliver it to the owners in a bucket, then that SAME family had 2 chis that they let run that would climb into my trashcan all the time, never mind crap all over my yard. Their kids were over playing soccer with Audrey one day and I told them if I don't see their dog in the can and put it out on trash day, their dog is going to get dumped in the truck and killed! The little girl stepped in a pile of poo and I told her her dog poops in my yard all the time, it could be from him. They are SUCH NICE kids, Audrey loves to play with them, and I have not seen their dogs running loose since. I do make sure my dogs get vaccinated, even my old girls, because I know these people who are letting their dogs run and crap in my yard arent' vaccinating them.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves!

I've had little dogs running up behind us nipping at heels or trying to sniff butts. I will kick them away (I'm not afraid to make contact). I've also had a couple labs come running up, because apparently nobody is afraid of labs apparently, except me!

As responsible pet owners I think it is hard for us to comprehend how people can care so little, and have so little respect for others.

CathyandZimmer's picture

Well....

I live in a condo complex and apparently I have a new neighbor with a dog (I've seen her out with the puppy) who feels it OK to leave poop all over the grass. So I pick up her dog's poop and leave the bag by her door...3 times I've done it already.

My next step is to leave her a note and kindly ask her to pick up after her dog.

Yes, people are ignorant...the way of the world sadly.

so true

I f I can take the time to make sure my animals are safe by putting up a fence, other people should follow, I am glad jake was not hurt, and a fence is a good thing

[linked image]

how is stella today Celine??

hope she is feeling more like herself, If they dont have a safe place to let their pets run free, then all should get tickets,

That is how our stupid neighbor is....

he has 2 boxers and 2 small dogs and one of the small dogs runs free all the time because they leave their femce open and one of the boxers was in our yard the other day when I was taking Jake out. We haven't had time to put up a fence yet but trust me we are!

I know what you mean

We get that a lot at the cottage. I understand that people want their dogs to run free in the country - I grew up in the country and we never tied our dogs up! That said, they need to be well trained enough that if you call them, the come right back (which most aren't).

Glad you and Lily are OK.

not only is it annoying

but dangerous too, for everyone involved,

See it all the time here

here it is really bad! there are dogs running loose left and right and its just really sad! the area is really poor and country and they just have no regard for their animals to be quite honest! We live in a nicer neighborhood and still have people who let their dogs run all over! Our one neighbor has like 4 Chi's and every time we go fo ra walk they come running at us and of course it gets our dogs wound up...Rosie bulldozed the leader one time and after that they will keep their distance and bark but before they would always run up to us and stuff! very annoying!

[IMG][linked image][/IMG]

[IMG][linked image][/IMG]

or other animals either

what if their animals have the least bit of aggression or run into a dog that has agression issues, whathappens then, or worse wonder if they happen to meet a vehicle. makes me wonder

[linked image]

happens here too..I am very cautious about mine..but.........

in the summertime especially..since this is cottage country..you see them let their dogs run free all the time..
I have a small fenced in area in the back of the house that protects them when I can not be out there with mine.
MINE stay very close to home..
but when I am out for a walk..most days I see some dog out there just runing free.
bugs me too
no concern for their animals is the way that i see it

So weird

I mean, don't people listen?
