In addition to the daily cleaning, we feed a all natural human grade food (Canidae). We are sure that the food also played a part in the tear stains, but I do feel that daily cleanings are a preventative must. We did feed another food before that had beet pulp as a filler. Water also makes a difference especially if your water has a lot of metals....

Nutro. Then she rapidly developed bad tear stains. Someone mentioned that Nutro puts red beets as an ingredient, and that may be the cause. Perhaps it was just a coincidence, but I took her off Nutro.
Poor lucy looks horrible because of those tear stains, and they are getting worse by the day. Could it be her food? What food do you give your bullies?

I really dont think there is anything to "remove" tear stains, the culprit comes from within. You can clean until you yourself get tear stains! I would try a new food, alot of times its whats in the food, like beet pulp. Try a human grade food with little additives and preservatives.
My mommy washes our faces daily with diaper wipes (alcohol free, fragrence free), and then puts Balmex diaper rash cream on our faces to make the stains go away and keep the stains gone.

Okay, just kidding. Peroxide seems to be the treatment of choice, tho it takes several applications. Just be careful not to get it in the eyes. Some use makeup removal pads, I use manly cotton balls.
Nah... =) We use Britta filtered water.
But we DO use bottled when we're away from home!
Hee hee hee.
(My brother-in-law works for Poland Spring so we get all the free bottled water we want. Lucky Grover!)

Could nutro max in the green bag be Lucy's culprit?

I hear it is a solution with boric acid
Ive heard that a powder with boric acid can help with removing tears.
Upon a search, I found this web site that gives different treatment options

Hi Susan - (i.e. Leeloo's godmother) LOL
I feed my bouncy girl Proplan but would like to change to Wellness or some other food that's known to help with tear stains... what do you think?
