Well, do I feel like a bad Mom....

My Angel who is not a bully, she is a shar-pei and is 10 years old. has been very picky with her food over the past few months. She will eat for awhile then she will not eat unless I hand feed her the food and then she decided that she didn't want the dry food only wet, so I complied. I took her to the vet and her thyroid was off, then she had swollen hocks, alot of things going on all at once. I kept telling the vet there is something wrong, but couldn't figure it out. Her eyes were dull. Now I know what was wrong. I took her in the other day, complaining that I wanted her on her thyroid meds again, because she just looked depressed or said, she NEVER cried or seem in pain, no panting, etc. Just sad eyes. Well, she had FIVE abcessed teeth which had to be pulled out today. One was so bad that it had infected her sinus cavity, my poor baby was in pain this whole time, that's why the finiky eating patterns. I feel so terrible, she is on heavy duty pain meds for the next few days, she did want to eat tonight when she came home from the vets, but is sleeping comfortably now, but she is still bleeding some.

Get Well Wishes for your Angel...

If only they could talk & tell us---it would help so much. But she'll be feeling much better now! happy.gif

Thanks for all who responded the vet called and told me to thank

God. She actually said get on your knees, because when she got into her mouth and the foul odor that was in there she fully expected to find cancer.

poor little girl

glad that you found out what was wrong, and she will be feeling better soon,

I try and be on top of them, but with 8 it seems as if I am at the vets everyday!!!!!

Well...

it seems to me that the vet should have figured that one out...when you had her in the first time. Try not to beat yourself up over things as you are doing your very very best and you pursued her symptoms and got the answer in the end.

Lots of dogs never have anyone pay any attention to them...your baby is one of the very special lucky ones!

Aw...poor old gal.

Its not your fault, if she wasn't drooling or emiting a foul odor, showing any facial swelling, how were you to know. Glad that you persisted with the vet, tho. It should be uphill for her now. happy.gif
