jumped out of bed...expecting a stranger in the house.....and it turned out that Gretta and Jenna needed to protect us from a hot air balloon flying over the house They went crazy every time they heard the whooshing sound of the flames forcing air into the balloon....Gretta was growling and barking so much she was spitting
She was also quite confused..the balloon was so low that I could see the people...and they were calling Gretta.....the whole experience had her quite perplexed...she has been strutting around the house..huffing and puffing...ready for the next "threat" to her family
yikes that is a low flyer....

LOL.....reminds me of a similar story
Years ago I went with a friend in her motorhome to some shows in AZ. We got in late evening, very dark, following their directions where to park.
Well, I slept in the back bed, opposite the dog crates. At the crack of dawn, I wake with the dogs carrying on, just as you described. Turned out we were in the back row on the end for the dog show motorhome parking, and the rest of the park had hot air balloons. The one they were starting up was probably less than 50 feet from where we were. The dogs went crazy..... What a way to wake up. Scared the dickens out of me, not knowing what that sound was.
Hot air balloons are so scary!
I used to train at a dogtrainingclub in my region, and on beautifull summer evenings every now and again balloons passed by. They tend to cause a wave of panic over the trainingfield.,
On the other side, once we had exams on that same field, when on the other side every 20 min or so a helicopter landed and flew away. Not one dog was scared!
I think the fact that they don't hear the balloons coming and then the woosh of the burningsystem freaks them out! The noise of helicopter was heared all the time, so by the time they were at the part of the field for the exam, they were used to it.
LOL.. poor gretta! such a good watch dog...
i do remember a lot of dogs barking at us when i went hot-air ballooning... they seemed to freak out with the noises... good girls!
