Can I shout it from the rooftops?!?!
I just met with a lovely older gentleman and his business partner. They are SO sweet... and they LOVED Gretl! Even though she chomped on his finger.
They don't charge crazy amounts (though, probably high compared to a lot of you since everything here is stupidly expensive) and they aren't like all of us here, crazy into everything "dog." But they are certainly people I would feel comfortable letting her out when I can't be in two places at once.
This is SUCH a huge relief. HUGE. I never had one lined up for Grover, and for so many reasons now, I need to have that backup plan.
I'm going to call a few other people so that we are known and I have that connection, but I'm feeling pretty great right now!
(And they're bonded and insured. LOL!!!!)
And a pic for good measure.

thanks Julia for posting some of Grover's story...
I am still new around here and did not know anything about Grover
I think you should do a thread for the newbies on Grover
so we can get a look into your life with Grover a bit..
you are a great lady with a great bulldog puppy now but would love to hear
about the Grover obsession..
thanks
sounds like a great place, i want to come, make
sure her spa treatment doesnt include the heat dryer.
Her momma went to a spa weekend and they put a flower on her head, they used a dab of cooled hot glue.

aww that's so sad!
thanks for sharing that. I imagine it still hurts. Gretl looks like she is a WONDERFUL way to help heal a broken heart.

Re: WE HAVE A PET SITTER!!!!!!!!!!!! =)
We always use the College student...she loves having her own "house" for the weekend and we know Teela is at home getting tons of attention. We give her $50 for a weekend if we are out of town.

Yep, Grover was my baby... =)
He was raw fed for 7 years.
He passed in September at 8 years old. Pretty traumatic... and a dark day on BDW. He was loved by many, many people.
But Grover was plenty for me.
The litter is raw fed and holistically raised. Because Liz and I are of the same mindset, it was a super easy transition. She eats and takes everything Grover did! Hahaha.
He's a handsome squishy-face.

Gretl had been born on 8/14 and I had actually gone to meet her and her siblings when they were 3 weeks old I think? I can't remember. Liz jokingly wanted me to take one...
A week or so later, Grovie got very very sick and it turned out he had a tumor on his lung AND one on his heart. In a totally unexpected turn of events, I had to say goodbye.
So, I think Grover knew that it was ok to go... he knew Gretl would take care of me. I didn't get her for two months after...
Gretl was raised on raw immediately.
I'm very very grateful for Liz and her friendship all these years... Monty was a celebrity back when she used to post, and it's pretty cool to think that after all these years, I actually have a Monty baby.

is Gretl a raw fed pup?
Audrey is a raw girl too. that is so cool to have such a lasting friendship! I hope when the time is right to add my next bulldog to my family, it will be a pup from a BDW breeder! I just joined this board a few months ago, but you had Grover first?

Re: do you have a picture?
Ooof... that was a challenge. I have NO pictures of her from the side. Just goes to show that she's always charging the camera.
LOL

"own food" ..... VERY important!!
those kennels in your area must not mind cleaning up runny poo.
After Dubby's last boarding experience, she had diarrhea for nearly a week. They claim they were feeding the chow I took for her. I don't know if somebody threw her some oddball treats, the chows got mixed up, or she was having severe anxiety over everything.
It was a mess. I was cleaning carpet at 3 a.m., night after night ....
We try really hard to take her with us when we are away from home. This trip just won't work out for her. But we're going to see Santa at his North Pole workshop and have him send something special back for her.

That is a great price
We pay almost $60 per night for both dogs. They are in the same suite and I usually request the senior wing for my two because they are not barkers. The wing has heated floors and is quieter than the other kennels that have the louder barking dogs. One of the last times the boys stayed, they got thrown out of the senior wing because my monster Stosh started chewing on the molding.
$19/day
The other place was charging $15 for runs, was further away, only had staff there twice daily, and didn't have vets on-site.

I'm thrilled!

They won't stay, but they'll come over as many times a day as ne
I'm mainly concerned about my weddings this year and the fact that I'm usually out of the house for 16 hours+. If my mom isn't available, or I don't want to burden her, I feel much better knowing I can pay someone to just come let her out.

Spa treatment... can I go?
A vacation to Montana AND a spa treatment?
Heavenly.

I'm glad you found a good place! And that they allow all her own things is great. I hate the kennels around here. One doesn't even allow your own FOOD. Bah!

So Gail
may I ask how much the facility is charging?
Our vet opened the same type of Pet Spa but it cost me $100 bucks a night for the 2 dogs in 1 suite. The suites are large rooms (not runs) and they also have the daily walks, daily play time in the toy room, daily emailed photos w/update, and 24 hour people on staff. I couldn't afford it for a week so I hired the pet sitter to come do overnight stays with a mid-day walk. $55 bucks a night and she is also a licensed trainer/behaviorist.
YAY Deb! I'm so glad you found someone...
I wish I could afford to have him let her out during the day! Would save me the time and mileage on my car going back and forth in the middle. Urgh...

Me Too! --- WooHoo!
I'm so glad you found someone
.
It is a little bit stressful looking.
I think I may have mine come a couple of times mid day to do a doggie walk just to test the waters before we leave for our week trip.
I would love her to teach Ester not to be a total nut when she sees other dogs on a walk. With all the shows Esters done and she shows well, you would like other dogs wouldn't be so exciting for her.
what a relief!
and I love the pic!Is it just the lighting or is her ear white? I can't remember...

Cathy

These things are so important ....
comfort for our furkids and peace-of-mind for us.
I just made reservations for Dubby's accommodations while we are in Alaska next month. It's a new place in town, a newly-established vet clinic with boarding facilities. I don't need their vet services, we have excellent Bulldog specialists at another clinic .... but I needed a better boarding situation, and it's closer to home.
We signed up for "deluxe" boarding, which include 3 outings per day, 1-1 playtime, and a spa treatment on her last day. And we're allowed to bring her bed and toys, so she can relax with her own things.
There will be people there all day long ... people noises instead of just barking dogs. It's a new building, very spacious.
It's a big relief for me.
Gretl is darling!

that is great
that you found some body to take care of your girl when you cant be there, will they stay at your house if you need to go away for a few days??? by the way, she is just getting cuter all the time.

That IS worth celebrating
I wouldn't be able to travel (even to see grandkids) if I didn't have someone here that I felt comfortable leaving in charge of my dogs, especially when I had several of them! Now, with this one old gal who needs to be lifted out of her bed most of the time, and stood at the doorway to go out (or at the bush when she is being really lazy/slow) I need someone willing to do all that...and fortunately for me, I have Tina, who is likewise insured and bonded. Great relief!
