We have some answers too! First off, no cancer and no tumor! So, what she has is the following:
Pulmonary Hypertension (moderate)
Chronic degeneration of the mitral and tricuspid valves
Congestive Heart Failure - moderate - ascites
Tricuspid regurgiation - moderate
I guess all that is a kinda long way of saying that her valves are wearing out. We have a boat load of meds and we have to go back for a second echocardiogram in 2-4 weeks.
The reason why my vet thought there was a tumor is because the right side of her heart is very enlarged, while the left hand side is under-sized. The Tricuspid valve is supposed to be a one-way valve, but in Bailey's case it is weakening so the blood flow is leaking backwards instead of moving on to her other heart chambers.
We liked the cardiology doctor - she took a lot of time to take care of Bailey and explain everything to me. She also drew pictures and wrote the whole thing up.
and this is Bailey's opinion of the whole thing...

Ha, Bailey!
I don't like doctors either - even the nice ones! Sounds like the situation can be managed - that's great!
Bays cardio doctor
said the very same thing! It's tricuspid valve displaysia and she said that Bailey was probably born with it.

Well, now you know what is really going on
good luck with her. I'm sure with the proper meds, she will feel so much better.
Hugs to the patient

so much better than you thought.... and happy for you all..
I actually wondered about this.. I had a two year old girl who was the most active, healthy bulldog you had ever met... within one week she became very ill and looked pregnant.. U/S showed the right side of her heart to be 3 times larger that the other.. she was diagnosed with tricuspid valve displaysia.. this is a defect from birth and is rarely found as a murmur. The valve never closed as it should have.

Your vet sounds wonderful! I'm glad you have a plan of action, a

sounds promising..
meds are easy. My dogs all come running for their "cookies."

I don't rescue animals because I want to feel better about myself, or morally superior to anyone. The best part of my life with animals is the humility they teach and the humanity the foster.
Wonder if they ever do pacemakers for dogs..

That's encouraging!!
The fact that there's moderate (not severe) regurg. The meds that are available nowadays, can improve quality of life immensely! So, YAY!

Re: We are home from the cardio appointment!
Did the specialist say wether or not surgery is an option, or does she feel the meds will be enough, i am glad that there is no cancer or tumor. I love the face on your girl.
