walks

I'm interested to see how your dogs do one walks. do they walk beside you? in front? behind? pullers...sit down and don't movers?? barkers? do their attitudes change on leash vs off leash?

hahaha thats awesome!

Remi's is obviously Remington...but i only ever say that when people ask me "whats his name?" i always call him remi, or remdog. My three year old son (Oliver) has all sorts of nick names for him! Remdog, Rempooch, Rembino, Remboza, Rembalina! haha and the list goes on, its so cute.

I LOVE the name (haha!)!....

His given name is "Remy Martin", and I never changed it because I like it so much...it fits him perfectly too!

My gang love thier walks!...

Since I have 4, I take them out in pairs for 30 minutes each time (every day); I used to walk all 4, but to be honest with you, it was a bit much to handle. Duffy is my "reactive" guy...squirrels, birds, and other dogs will get his attention and he just wants to plant himself in the road and not move! So now he walks with Eve, and it's a lot easier to manage.
Rufus and Remy walk together (I do one on each side beside me) and it is wonderful walking with them; they are SO well behaved. happy.gif

I live in NC

in a very small town. On my side of the road there are 5 houses on 6 acres, and there IS a leash law, but directly across the street there is a 50 acre farm, and no leash law. The "town" lines are a jagged zig zag and we just happen to be on the 'town' side of it. Around the corner is swamp land, it can't be built on so it's wooded, maybe another 6 aces or so, no leash law, or no enforced leash law, and that's where the loose dogs would hang out. In the opossite direction it's heavily built, a house on every half acre, and NO leash law, so we avoid that at all times. It is CRAZY that they are not considered town property limits! They have sewers too, and I don't, makes me most unhappy. Audrey has never been on a leash when we take her outside on our property. Not my other dogs, either. It's pretty quiet, which is what I LOVE about living here. I can't explain HOW my dogs know to stay by me when we are outside, or how they know their property lines and stay inside it, or the exact process I used to teach them to go on the porch and wait for me when I tell them to. They just do what I ask them to do. I think they had a huge role to play in teaching Audrey also. We have been here for 11 years and have never had a confrontation with another dog.

thats great!

no leash law? really!? where do you live? Where i live there is a VERY strick leash law...i live in down town Portland Maine, its so busy and chaotic down town most of the time, i'd be so nervous having remi (especially at such a young age) off leash. we do a TON of off leash when we go to visit my mother as well as a lot of off leash hiking trails around here.

Dolly is very good on a leash...

When she was younger she always thought she was "caught" when she was on a leash. So whenever she was a little rambunctious, I'd click the leash on her & she'd instantly turn into an angel. When my grandkids came, I'd put the leash on her & they could lead her around anywhere & she'd just be perfect. Even a 3 yr old grandkid could lead her anywhere. LOL

Audrey does well on a leash

she is not a puller, she is more of a lagger. But now she listens very well when I ask her to move along. I don't work on the heel position with her as much as I should, but it's not something that we would use much, if at all. We use loose leash walking pretty much exclusively. I do work on her with fast and slow walking, and expect her to stay by my side but I'm not nearly as picky as what a true heel would require. She is allowed to sniff and check things out. ALWAYS though when we stop, she is expected to sit. She tries to stay one step ahead of me, and she'll swing around to the front and sit in a perfect front and stare at me all happy with herself. sigh It's hard to get upset with her when she looks so CUTE and technically I do expect her to stop in "front" far more often than to sit by my side. We don't have her on a leash very often, most of our training is done off leash. I don't walk her much because there is no leash law in most of the places here and I won't walk her by myself, just in case we do meet up with some loose dogs. Audrey does NOT like other dogs.

Re: walks

Chloe is "fair" on a leash... she can be a puller sometimes... she has a LOT of energy (especially when she sees the leash come out).
I have been really working with her on not pulling and she is getting better. Once when my neices were here, my 9yr old neice wanted to be the one to walk her... I was afraid Chloe would get away from her so I stayed very close... when Chloe took off, Anna just held tight to the leash and SAT DOWN on the sidewalk LOL it was very effective wink.gif

both of my bullies are great on a leash...

never had a puller ever..
they both heal right at my side
Gus is just the best on a leash since he is deaf.
he uses my ears all the time for a walk and looks right at me the whole time..
cool actually
but no issues here on walking at all
I started them very very young though as well
