ok so the vet called and we are doing phase 2 of the deaf dog study here..
so should be interesting..
the rules are the asme..
NO talking to the dogs all day this time..from the time they get up until they go to the bed..last time was just for few hours but this time..the whole day.
NO radio or other noise allowed in the home.
hopefully they will read my lips.lol but doubt it.
treating all 5 dogs as if they are deaf will be very interesting to say the least.
the plan here is to see how the dogs adjust to not hearing any talking ...and how well they adapt to sign language.
I GOTTA tell you..lol. we will practice today when I can still talk..lol to get some of the hand signs down pat for tomorrow.
so just hand signs tomorrow for the dogs and I
this is very interesting and very useful for other deaf dog families. deaf dog read ONLY our actions..and so on..
body posture and things like that..
I will wear the ear plugs for the afternoon...changes too. only wore then for a couple of hours before..but noon till 6 tomorrow. this is very interesting..I found it cool to get right down and watch the dogs body movements and such..neat with the plugs although I treasure my hearing far to much to do this all the time.
MY VET IS VERY lucky that I have a good sense of humour...
and she is doing the same with all her dogs tomorrow too
and then we see if we get the same results..
we did on the first part of the test the other week..
I think cheese cut into tiny bits would work too...I DO NOT...
like the idea of kibble..just cause my dogs are not food hounds..well maybe 2 of the pugs..lol but the rest..are not.
and need something that they can learn fast..
in the start of the day with the signs I will use the turkey and then think the cheese is a great idea
thanks that might just work for this one day...
I was thinking more lower fat but can cut cheese pretty small ...
turkey sounds yummy
if your dogs don't have grain issues, I think cheerios would be ok for just one day. Little bits of cheese. their kibble. dog cookies broken into little bits.

Cathy
when she first came home
LOL..thanks Cathy..should be interesting..I NEED the tape too..l
I can just see me go to open my mouth all day long..lol
will be ok once I get into the hang of it..
just need a fast easy treat and think I will be fine..lol
made a turkey for supper tonight
to just use for the special treats for them tomorrow
and the big ones that have to learned..
now need something simple for the rest of the treats.
any ideas??
OMG I'd have to tape my mouth shut
I just know I'd start to speak then stop suddenly, it would becomne a study on how dogs deal with their owner losing their marbles!

Good luck tomorrow!
Cathy
when she first came home
so give me some ideas for MEGA low fat treats for tomorrow?? .pl
I am thinking this is going to have to be a truly big treat day with the dogs for the day tomorrow
I have 5 of them and want to be able to treat them fast..
any thoughts??
this is a full day...
was thinking of maybe cheerios
they worked ok last time although there is likely other good choices out there too
any ideas?
check in tomorrow..LOL will update through the day again...
I have to take notes throughout the day too
just keep a short journal
watch the dogs response to me..
and what I feel like deaf too..
should be very interesting
I am ok with all this and hope it helps another deaf dog out there too..
thanks for your support
following the thread
Can't wait to tune in for the next chapter.....
it is interesting..5 deaf dogs for the day should be very intere
treat all 5 dogs as deaf dogs..
lets hope that Gus is a good boy tomorrow
and shows the rest of the dogs
the ropes..of being deaf FAST...
I think I will work on a few signs today and see how they do..
the vet has 6 dogs I think at her house and all them are doing the same thing..
should be very interesting..
it is hard not to talk to a dog..so used to it..
almost need duct tape for my mouth..lol to NOT too.
there will be another day of this yet as well and think that finally this study is all ready to go out to the University of Guelph.
Gus has one more day to go the vets this month sometime to finish his side of the study
another full day of pampering..
how can a bully handle all that attention..lol
Please keep us informed...very interesting stuff!
