I am fairly new here and try to keep us with the bulldog news.A few weeks back, there were threads on vaccinations on puppies.I have tried to read most of them..
my 3 bullies are due for their vaccines. They have never had a reaction in the past but I'm hesistant to give them ones they don't need. They are all pets, no showing or boarding. Occasional dog park visitors...my card from the vet says they are due for the Parvo virus,Bordetella,DHL-PP booster w/parvo and I know they need their rabies.I also chose the Proheart injectable 6 mths ago for them, so they are due for that one.Any thoughts?
thanks!

Thanks Julia for looking for your old article:)

That is one of the most helpful reads I've seen in a long time.
Julia. Your experience may well save the lives of bullies everywhere. Mine are not out a lot, so their exposure is minimal. I will ask about a titers test when we go again.

I don't boost anything automatically, unless I have to.
I give puppy vaccines and then run titers, like everyone else has said. The titer will most likely tell you that the pup is STILL covered by the original vaccine by counting the antibodies still in the system. Most vaccines are good for the life of the dog, provided the dog responds to them.

Here is my last post on this, if it helps.

Oh my gawd... it took me twenty minutes to find it. =)
I don't think the board indexed that time period. I searched and searched and searched every word I could think of that I had written in it. I finally used a random work around through google and found it for you.

Pretty cheap
I paid $50 for Bailey and he hasn't had any updates for 3 years.

I do the titer also...
My vet is rather pricey, a full titer is about $130. And my vet writes in Zimmer's chart "Client refuses vaccines". Zimmer is very healthy...knock on wood.

I'm totally going to do this
I'd never heard of it until the recent conversations here.
Last year, I didn't give Stella any of her shots. She had been through three surgeries and was recovering from having both of her eyeballs removed. I just couldn't see her trying to contend with shots as well. Obviously, she survived.
I will be asking my vet about this "tighter test" for sure.
Would love to start doing this
when I first asked my vet about it I pronounced it wrong (teeter not tighter) and though they are always great about answering my questions they made me feel like an idiot for even asking. They seem to take the stance "we know what's best so don't question it, dogs need shots".

When it comes to Onslow (he's my furchild) I will speak up and do whatever I have to do to keep him healthy and be sure I'm doing right by him. I think I just need to figure out for myself what he needs for sure and then tell them what I want him to have. In every other way my vet has been wonderful..............

Vaccines
This is just my opinion but I think we over innoculate our dogs. I take my guys in once a year and have a "titre" test done. It is a blood panel that will tell you if a shot needs to be boostered. None of my guys have needed anything boostered in several years. You can google the titre shot and see the benefits. So many dogs are getting cancer these days and a lot of studies link this to over innoculating. Think about who makes the money on these shots, the pharmaceutical companies and vets.

All my bullies are extremely healthy. This is just my opinion.
