Our 1 year old puppy just pulled up and destroyed the carpet in the hallway. I figure she was bored and just went to town. Now the question is what should we do when we are away from the house. Put her in her crate for 4 hrs? Not ideal to me, but not only is the destruction costly, it is not healthy. I imagine she will be throwing up the next couple days! Any support, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Definitely the problem...
Chester has a million toys too. Of course when he's board he just saunters over to the toy box, takes everything out of it to get a good look at what he's got...and then promptly sits down and eats the toy box! LOL. Maybe he thinks it's a Kong. If he eats it and throws it around maybe more toys will fall out! LOL
Actually, Kongs are GREAT for lonely pups. Especially if you make it hard to get the goodstuff out!

Hi,
When my dogs were pups I would take him out to potty when we first get up and again at about 8:10am & then he'd go into the crate. I'd get home at 1:10 & he'd go out to potty again & have lunch. Back in the crate at 1:50. I'd get home from work for the evening at about 5:30.
All 3 of my bulldogs have been on this schedule & it worked out just fine.
Opal is 2 1/2. She has the run of the kitchen all day. I no longer go home at lunch. She does not go potty in the house.

Re: try different kinds of Nylabones if she already likes those.
Thanks you for the suggestions! At lunch I just went and got her one of those big tires. She loves her crate but we had to remove the padding which was a towel because she ate it too! She has water and a fan so its better than my cubical at work...
only 2 toys... THATS THE PROBLEM
LOL LOL LOL LOL Angus has so many toys and when we dont play with him he is off to his toy basket!!! He loves his toys!!!!
what is the max number of hours...
...that you would crate a bully pup? I would like no not at all but I have to work! I am looking into some options...taking the pup to my Mom's on her days off and having a neighbor come over during the day. Bu there will be some days where he will be left alone longer than I'd like. I'm just wondering what you all have found to be the limit.
Thx
P.S. He will not be crated at night...he will in bed with us!
try different kinds of Nylabones if she already likes those...
also, a BIG tennis ball, my little one loves that and she can't bite it to destroy it or swallow it, the rubber tire, etc... Also, have you tried Bitter Apple Spray? I know if doesn't work for some, but my puppy just hates the taste (so I love it!) and it doesn't stain. Good luck!

btw~ 4 hours in a crate is not long, as long as she's already use to it (happy in there) and has some water. I put one of those upside-down hamster bottles in there.
Re: Didn't you know that it's the law....
I just emailed my husband with an order for Petco! He can;t come home tonight unless !!!!!!!
Didn't you know that it's the law....
A bulldog has to have at least 20 toys.
Opal said she's going to report you to the bulldog police.

Re: Chew toys, Chew toys, Chew Toys, Chew Toys
Thank you for your support!!! My mother in law is coming tonight which makes this more stressful. After work last night I cleaned for several hours.
You are right she can handle 4 hours. We were down to 2 toys we could trust her with....She has been known to eat toys too! I guess the search for toys continues to. She loves her nylabone and a rag toy.
Chew toys, Chew toys, Chew Toys, Chew Toys
and more Chew toys!!!
Yes...crate her.
Hi,
4 hours isn't long at all. She'll probably sleep the whole time anyway.
It's to save your stuff from being destroyed and for her own safety.
It's not mean & doesn't make you a bad bully mom.
