I couldn't take it anymore ... called the answering service and waited for call back. It was about 10 minutes later the vet called.
She says the moaning seems to be related to abdominal discomfort. Apparently, there is a gastric infection kind of thing circulating through canines in our area. Since our dog show days ended, Pride is not around any other dogs besides our own .. but, because of her fragile immune system, she can be affected by these types of things that never bother our other dogs (maybe through the breeze or something).
She has a temperature of 104 and the vet PROMISED me they will not let her illness progress to those awful head spasms she suffered in early 2001 from such a high fever.
They did bloodwork and will have the results in the morning. Pride was given something to help her rest. I didn't think to ask what they gave her ... as long as she's getting the proper attention and is comfortable.
It will be a very restless night here.

No ... there was nothing for her to get into.
Infact, she hadn't touched her food. I checked her toys to see if big chunks were missing that she might have swallowed, but they were fine. (If I plan to leave Pride loose in house while we're not home, I do a quick room-by-room scan to see if there are things that could cause trouble for her. I did this yesterday too.)
I have no idea what went wrong in the afternoon.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for Pride.
Prayers for Pride
I hope she gets better soon. I will tell you that my first bully, Abby, had symptoms of acute moaning and abd pain in the middle of the nite one time. I called the vet and took her in in the nite. He was concerned about gastric torsion. It turned out she had gotten in the garbage and eaten coffee grounds. (She eventually threw them up.) This gave her pancreatitis. She stayed for 4 days and had to have lots of fluids. I think I cooked chicken and rice for over a month for her before I could put her back on food. She didn't have a fever, though. I don't think it affected her breathing.
Could she have eaten anything strange?
She sure sounds sick. I hope she gets better soon.
Re: My mind is in over-drive ....
Torsion of the bowel would be more likely, but i dont think that is the case because of the symptoms you said!
My mind is in over-drive ....
Do you think it's possible that she DID aspirate and the abdominal discomfort is from coughing and choking violently while she was alone?
Oh Gail
Pride will be in my thoughts all night... I'm sorry you have to go through this...
prayers are with you!!!`

Why does she have such a low immune system?
Pride was hospitalized more times than I care to remember in 2001. The first bout of pneumonia would have killed her had I not been sitting beside her when she collapsed and fell off the bed in January, 2001. She was hospitalized nearly a week, on oxygen and IV antibiotics. And the cycle began. She would go through a round of antibiotics and things would be good for about 3 weeks after the drugs ... then fall apart again. They finally did the lung wash to determine what kind of monster bacteria was evading us. She was suppose to have been on the new drug for 8 weeks, but she started losing strength (couldn't climb stairs or get on the sofa) at the 5th week and I had to make the awful decision to discontinue the drug before it killed her. But 5 weeks on that drug did the trick and she rebounded. Things have been very good for about a year and a half. I guess I got too comfortable.
Gail I am so sorry...I feel for you and pride. It is awful to be

Gail, I am so sorry, I will think positive for you.
I hope that by tomorrow she is feeling much better. Why does she have a low immune system. I must have missed the reason.
