update on Chester

So Chester went up to 22 yesterday. He is on his thyroid meds and iron supplements. I talked yesterday with a very good vet who is retired due to injury from her practice and told her all about Chester, it gave me confidence that even though we kind of do not have a definite diagnosis they are doing everything any other vet would do. So he is in good hands. He will get his spleen ultrasounded in a month again, just to check if there is a change that needs to be watched--not of a much concern right now by my vet but i have been so neurotic and reading up on it, that I will be checking up on everything.
Fortunately his marrow produces red blood cells like cary and in the simple terms, we just do not know where they go...or he is so depleted by GI bleeding that it will take a long time to rebuild to normal levels, something vet I spoke to yesterday confirmed. So he eats like a king, no more diet at this point, and we will see how he will do. They told me yesterday that if he goes up in PCVs today, they will give my poor dude a break for a few days as he has been so pricked it would be good for him to recover.
So there is ....hoping for good results today, keeping my fingers crossed....and praying for sweet Betty (Dawn) as well.
Hug your babies and thanks for all your support.

Did they say that IMHA is a posibility?

That's where the body produces lots of red blood cells, but the immune system reacts to them as invaders and destroys them.

Spotty had it. His PCV was down to 13 at one point. My vet treated with high doses of prednisone that were tapered down gradually over many months. He had to be monitored very closely at first, but it eventually turned around. I'm pulling for Chester to do the same.

That's positive

I had a rescue who was severly anemic and I gave her iron pills and raw chicken livers to help build up her blood.
