Traveling by car with Bulldog

I am thinking about taking Sheldon with me on a 4 hour car ride. He usually sits in the front seat, with his Ruff Rider Roadie. I know that the front seat is not the safest place for him. My car is pretty small, the back seats are not very deep. Does anyone know of somesort of contraption that you can lay across the back seats to make more room? Thanks.

what about a doggie seat belt?

that way he can stay up front (where he'll most likely want to be) or so you can strap him in on the back seat and be able to concentrate on driving. Where are you two heading? (if you don't mind me being nosy, lol)

I'll have to check

I did think about that, but forgot. Thanks for reminding me!

Do the seats fold down by chance.

So many cars do.

Re: Traveling by car with Bulldog

How about filling up the space in the front seat, so that his head won't hang off. Except, then I guess you would still have the airbags to worry about. I know Ruby would not be happy to sit in the back, but maybe your bullie is different.

P.S. Where did you get your Roadie and how much did you pay?
Thanks

Great Idea!!!

Thanks Ineke! I am going to try and fill up the space between the front and back seat. I don't think Sheldon would fit on the floor in front of the passanger seat. I have a very small car. Thanks.

Will not use crate

For one, he would not stand it. Second, there is no way a crate big enough for him to fit in would fit in my car. Third, I read that it is very dangerous to crate a dog in the car because if you get in a serious accident, the force of the dog sliding inside the crate can shatter the crate and kill the dog. I think he is also to big for the floor. I have a tiny sports car and Sheldon just weighed in at the vet at 62 lbs. Thanks for the suggestions, though.

Can you fill up the space between the front and back seat

with some sleepingbags or something like that.

Then with a longer leash on his doggie seat belt he can lay down, and stand etc.

My dog is trained to travel in front of the right front seat (trained from puppy up), but it takes some discipline for the dog to stay there. But he loves the airco down there, and sleeps like a baby. May be for the long run?

Ahhh... thanks for the info!...

does he have a crate that could fit in your car and that he likes to be in? if not what about the floor?

Re: what about a doggie seat belt?

Hi Cristina. We have the best seatbelt out there, the Roadie, by Ruff Rider. Sheldon usually does ride up front with me, with his Roadie cliped to the seatbelt. He can't lay down in the front seat without his head hanging off--don't know how content he'd be like that for 4 hours. Also, the front seat is not the safest place for a dog beacuse of the airbags. I could put him in the back seat but I have a small sports car and the back seat is kind of narrow. I just checked and my back seat does fold down, but then, where do I clip the darn Roadie too? I am going to Tampa and trying to decide if I want take him? Thanks.
