I posted this also on the medical forum but in one day Tonka has gotten worse. The skin on the inside of his ear is bubbling and pussy. Is it possible he had an allergic reaction to the ear cleaning solution? His ears appear itchy and annoying him. I have him on Benadryl and Novotrimel antibiotic and Panalog cream. Has anyone else experienced this before? It is not in the ear canal only on the inside surface of the ear flap. I wish I could post a pic but camera is now in Chicago. Please let me know if this may be contagious or if it is a serious condition. Thanks.
Oh my gosh! I never thought of that!
I live on a ravine and he is constantly testing his boundaries with me. It looks exactly like poison ivy. I should try calamine lotion anyway. I am sure it wouldn't hurt. Dogs can get poison ivy? I just had him at the vets on Friday for his annual vacs and everything was fine. I do feel for him. The Benedryl at least keeps him quiet and not as bothered. The dog sleeps with me and he tossed and turned all night. Usually, when he sleeps he doesn't move all night. thanks Ce,
poor Tonka..I really don't know
but if it's pussy or oozing you might want to call your vet and get a gentler cleanser for him..maybe he is just sensitive to this one...
For Cody we use a foaming ear cleanser made by ADL it's for vet use only..but the vet gave us some because of how bad Cody's ear gunk was...and Cody has many open sores in his ear flaps..and this seems very gentle...
Tonka didn't rub his ear in any poison ivy did he?
that also oozes and blisters ..and will itch like crazy...poor sweet boy...good luck...I hope others have more info for you...ce
Cindy sounds painful
I saw your post on the medical board but have never seen anything like that-even on our cocker spaniel who used to get bad ear infections all the time. I would GUESS that it is some sort of reaction to the cleaning solution but who knows. I ams o sorry I am sure that is quite painful to Tonka!

Thanks Margaret..
I did some reading on the internet and it doesn't seem too likely dogs get poison ivy like we do. Your right about them transferring the oils from the plant to us though. If they brush up against a plant they can carry it on their fur.
Remember you could get it from him if it is poison ivy.
From the blisters. So I don't know if I would sleep with him. Wash your hands or use gloves if you are touching the blisters. I have no idea if dogs get poison ivy though.
