Tips Please! I'm adopting and 8 month old

My husband and I currently have two 7 year old litter mates. Male & female. We were asked to adopt an 8 month old female from a family that doesn't have enough time for her. Any tips on introducing the pup to our 7 year olds would be greatly appreciated!

Adopting

Kelly,

I tell people this all the time, proper introductions can make or break the relationships between dogs. Take it slow and always stay relaxed and calm.

I suggest you take the pup and the older ones to a park (in separate cars) or to a place where there will be no other dogs. Leashes on all dogs. One person walk the older ones, one person walk the pup. Do not allow contact. You are just letting them all know that the others exist. Take them all home, do the same in your own yard. Bring the pup in and crate him where the older ones cannot access. Keep them separated for a few days. Then allow them to sniff through a gate. Watch their body language. You should know the older ones well enough to pick up on any aggression.

When you feel comfortable enough, take one of the older dogs out with the pup in your yard. Then try the other one. If all goes well, then have the three of them together.

Stay calm, relaxed, talk in happy tones and lots of treats for appropriate behavior.

Good luck

slowly ....do you have a crate or seperate area for the new come

with Cody ..because we have the 5 other yelpsters all male..and some as old as 10 years...they were a pack unto themselves....as I'm sure your two bullies are..so We put Cody in a room with the door open and a tall baby gate up..so they could all sniff and greet when ever they wished...,(or a crate ,perferably one that is wire not enclosed),you can always cover three sides of the crate if it gets to looking like the new bullie needs some time away from being sniffed...
We did this for several days...then slowly we took Cody out in the yard with one other yelpster at a time..and let them sniff //and greet some more..but with us, within arms reach and only for a few minutes..then we took Cody back to his room ..and let all the yelps out to explore and sniff the yard where Cody had been...little by little we let two out with him then three..and so on ...after a couple of weeks of them being oksy in the yard we did the same method inside the house...just Cody and one yelp...at a time..and then two..and the whole process..we never leave them alone together never...
it has been 4 weeks now...and they get along fine..but it really has to be slowly....hope this helps..I am sure others have some great advice ..but this works for us..every time ..we add a yelpster to our gumbo gang.....
I hope all goes well.it very wonderful that you are giving this unwanted by it's ex-two legger a better life...blessings ce
