For those who have/Have had Boys and Girls.....

Have you seen any gender specific things ? Like ....are the boys are girls more hyper/crazy ? Are the boys are girls more loveable ? aggressive ? snuggly ? Do you think it just depends on the specific dog ? or have you found differences between M & F bullies ? Just curious wink.gif)

I think for the most part the females are more aggressive

then the males. At least that has been my experience. They seem to form a more protective bond with you and are very protective and jealous. That is just my experience, so I am not saying it is necessarily that way with all females. For example, I was driving up to NJ from FL with 6 bullies.. I stayed overnight in a motel off of I95 in NC.. well, it wasn't the best place to stay.. It had gangs of older teenagers running around outside and they were loud and cursing.. I had my dog crates pushed up against the door so nobody could push is open. The motel desk was no help at all. It was around 11:00pm and my husband says, we are getting out of here now. I said, bull $#!@.. I am not leaving till daylight. I slept on top of the bedspread with my clothes on.. but I would doze off and then wake up startled.. Everytime I did that.. My Dolly was sitting at the head of the bed and she would look down and give me a kiss as if to say, "it's ok Mommy, I'll take care of you" I loved her so much and she passed away 3 years ago and I'll never stop missing her. She was my shadow.. The boys are just smooshy lovers for the most part. They just want to be hugged and loved and play with their toys. Though they do get protective when they "imagine" it is necessary. Right now I have all boys. Someday, I'll have a girl again and I know I'll love her as much as I did Dolly.. So, what I guess I am saying is absolutely nothing.. I'm rambling as usual..lol.. It's just a matter of personal preference.. The most important thing to look for is good breeding.

I have one or each

Rocky is aloof, but he is a rescue I have only had for 9 month, Lily is the ost lovable cuddly snuggly girl ever, but dislikes change, lots of commotion, and strangers, Rocky could care less about anything.

Holly is the boss, she'll give Quincy a look and

he will leave the room. My first bullie was a female and she got along with all people and dogs. Quincy is more aloof with people and doesn't like big dogs. I think each dog is different.

2 Boys and 2 Girls

over the past 15 years and my experience.

BOYS
More mellow
Less Bitchy
Easy going
Less snuggly
Not very kissy

GIRLS
More Snuggly
Pushy
More demanding
More Jealous
More energetic
More kissy

Interesting comments...

Over the years we've had 2 girls & one boy, Buster. And Buster was a marker! We had to really watch him in the house. He wasn't neutered & maybe that would have made a difference. Otherwise he was a sweetie. But my girls never, ever had accidents in the house ever & certainly never did anything on purpose!

Maude is Type A; Gus is totally laid back

Maude is hyper and totally dominant. She is affectionate when she wants to be. Gus is a cuddler and loves being held and having his paws stroked.

I'd never had a male dog before Gus, and I would be inclined to get another male after my experience with him.

PollyAnna and Hank

PollyAnna has always been hyper, loving and playfull. Hank on the other hand is laid back, sleeps alot but also very affectionate.

yes, Winnie was much more hyper too, but it's hard to

say if it's a gender thing...Hooch is a rescue so very different in many ways since he had a rough past.

luvwinnie's picture

I've only had one of each...I can tell you our girl was more

dominant than our boy! Our Winnie would mark territory like crazy. Hooch never does. Winnie liked to sleep next to us...Hooch likes to sleep ON TOP of us. happy.gif

Wow...

and here I have always found females to be more calm and sensible! lol I wonder if it has to do with age?

A lot of regulars have posted that their male bulldogs have swee

than their female bulldogs, but like I said, I've never owned a male bulldog and thus have no experience to relate.

Yeah, my first bulldog was a crazy humper, lol. Spaying didn't make the slightest difference. Of my current bulldogs, Boo and Clovis, both of whom are girls, hump sometimes not not too often. Boo's preference, tho, is to roll up dog beds and hump those instead of humping the other dogs or people's legs.

Mine...

I personally am on my second male Bully. Henry (my first Bully) wasnt very cuddly. Definitely my shadow... but didnt like to be held or hugged. Booger is exactly the opposite. That dog would prefer for me to put him in a baby sling and carry his 59 pound butt around. He ALWAYS wants to be held. I think it depends on the dogs personality. Henry was bought from a backyard breeder who kept and bred the parents in dog pens in the backyard (IN SC HEAT!!!). We didnt get him til he was 13 weeks old so he was raised to be very independent of human affection and it showed in his personality. Booger, on the other hand, was bred by an excellent breeder who bottle fed the puppies in addition to being nursed by their mother. He was raised in a playpen in the breeders living room and held constantly. Plus, I visited him every weekend until I brought him home and held him and cuddled him. He is DEFINITELY very much a baby in every way. Just like a small child. Wants his momma.

So yes I think it has to do with the dog and not the gender. I have had males and females of lots of different breeds and have found females to be more motherly toward children and calm. Boys are just obnoxious and goofy, but I prefer that. happy.gif

We have both

and find our female to be more wild and hyper. Our male is very calm and very very affectionate. He likes to play but would rather rub all up on me. The female just wants to play 24/7.

Roxanne2211's picture

One of the reasons

I asked is becuase a friend of mine told me that she has had 4 bulldogs ( 3 girls, 1 male ) and all of the girls were so much more hyper than her male . She said one was downright nutso . So it just got me thinking if there was a difference in this breed or not really .

Oh , I know about girl humpers . My 3 Chi girls do a very good "conga line" LOL

I've only had girl bulldogs and they have all been very affectio

I have owned male dogs of other breeds and they too were very affectionate. Of course, they did hump more, but some of my girls have been pretty bad humpers, even after they were spayed. My first bulldog, who was spayed early on, kept humping almost her entire life.
