Wow, what a shock. My husband died instantly in a car accident, that it was a blessing that it was quick and painless, but for those left behind, we were not prepared and I think the shock of it all is the hardest.

Your dad was such a handsome man! And a Navy hero. My grandpa was in the Navy. I have a soft spot for boys the enlist.

My prayers to you in this difficult time. Try to hold on to the precious good memories and the consolation of how he went.

I'm sure you have a world of happy memories that will remain with you after his sudden departure has settled.

I'm so sorry to hear he crossed over. My father was in the Navy during WWII and served in the Pacific. I thank your father for his military service too. If he did serve in WWII, I have a suggestion to make that I think would really make him smile from one side of heaven to the other. There is a D-Day Museum in New Orleans that has been expanded to also include the war in the Pacific. I'm not sure if the Museum is still doing it (you would have to call to find out) but for a long time the families of WWII veterans who had crossed over could buy a brick that would be laid in and around the Museum. I forgot the word limit, but you can put the name of your father on there, the years of his military service, the branch he served in, and the names of his family members, such as "husband of and father of ____." It's a great way to honor veterans of WWII. I am so glad I bot one for my father. I know that some, and hopefully many, visitors will see his name and think of him and his service during such a difficult time for our country.

And if the D-Day Museum in New Orleans no longer sells the bricks, there is also a new Memorial in Washington D.C. for WWII veterans. You want to check with that museum to see if they have a similar program.
