are my pics to expensive? im very willing to lower the cost if it means people will buy them. I got a very nasty email from someone on the board yesterday saying i had no right to sell my pictures for that price because i'm not a "pro' and that no one will buy them because "all teenagers buy drugs, and i don't want my money to go to waste." Just to let everyone know, thats NOT true, i've never done and never will do drugs... and hate it when some people autimatically assume that teenagers are all druggies. I'm actually selling my pics to get money for college...because my familiy does not really have a lot of money, and i need to start saving. I just don't want this business to go to waste, because i spent more then i should have opening a P.O box b/c i thought then i could sell them, but now everyone's saying they're too expensive...its just i cant lower it too much because 35$ barely covers the art supplies and packaging and time that it takes to do one.
Let me know what you think...
sorry this is so long...
this is how i feel...tired and confused!
is it someone you reconize from the board?
just wondering... -ann
i sent
the guy a nasty email and stood up for myself, and he hasn't answered back...must've hit home. he said some other very nasty things that i won't say, but lets just say that he's a guy with nothing better to do than try and rip me down...i hate people that do that. I try not to let it get to me, but im very sensitive about my art. thanks all!
Sorry cant type-look not like!
look 18 =)
Lindsay
I am so sorry someone wrote you a letter basically accusing you of supporting a drug habit. There is great discrimination that goes on with young peope-I am 26 but like 18 most of the time so I get it too. You just have to either ignore it or stand up to it. I do not that that is unreasonable if that includes shipping. I think your pictures are quite nice!
Hang in there-unfortunately the world is filled with mostly good people but the bad are the ones that stick out because they wound you the deepest!
KB
NOT TOO MUCH!
And if I can ever find the right pics I will send them to you! Yes them b/c I want more than one
Keep up the good work- it is a great way to make $ for college! -ann
no
I will order mine as soon as I get moved in my new home
july3rd:)
Your price is not too high!! My husband and I both...
thought it was very reasonable. I would like to have you do one sometime in the future but I would like it to be of Chalmer as an adult, so I have a little while to wait.
I happen to have a 22 and a 19 year old son and neither of them is into drugs! What an ignorant statement for someone to say. Good luck with your pursuits, I admire you for your talent and your desire to help pay for your education.
Dana
I'm no help on the cost....sorry....but
I do know from my own experiences that yes art supplies are very expensive...hence the term "starving artists" being so well known....
so two thoughts...
one: ignore mean words...that's what the delete button is for...never let anyone who sinks to cruel attacks steal your joy,or bother you...I mean consider the source ,if that is how they talk to you...why would their opinion matter?it's yesterdays dish water...toss it...you own your life journey and you decide who's opinions to value......folks like that are gum on the bottom of your shoe....
..and two:when ever you start off..sometimes..art no matter how well done...isn't really a money maker...I have known some very talented artists..who barely cover their expensenses....I for one have even sold my things for less then I had invested in them..because I am such a stickler about the supllies I use...don't get discourage...your cost may not be too high for your talent...but it may be more then some are willing or able to pay ....just give the fairest price you are able to...and it might help if your cost included the supplies and shipping..so it is just one cost for the buyer to deal with...and if this works out great...if it is only a stepping stone to promote your talent...and get some exposure then ...that is where your at right now..however do not..lose your dream ..or give up...never give up....hugs..and stand strong..it's your life...ce
ps... the statement about teens and drugs is ignorant..and not worth comment...
Lindsay
I think your drawings are very good and that it is very admirable of you to do anything to save money for your education. I do plan on having you draw Theo am just waiting for the right picture that I want. You will be hearing from us before the summer is over. And your prices are reasonable, I think.
im trying...lol! ;)
See I told you
Just be patient our little ones just won't hold still and I'm sure in time you will have more than you can handle.
WHAT????
Your post has me rather peeved!!! First of all, I don't think $35 is too much. I plan to purchase a sketch from you, just as soon as I take a good picture of Sheldon. Second, I cannot believe that you received such a nasty e-mail, what nerve that person has and how ignorant they are! Lindsay, you are truely gifted! Please don't let one nasty person get you down. Best of Luck!
Joanna & Sheldon
I don't think they are that expensive
I just haven't gotten a good pic yet to have you do. I can't get my Ruby to hold still long enough .
Don't worry or even think about the negative people you will run into them all your life . That's just life I'm sure their are more positive people out there than negative.
Just give it time. I realize not all teenagers are out for drugs those kids don't have the patients to draw anything they are out for the easy cash. Just keep up with what you are doing.
Opinion from an artist...
My husband (David) is a professional artist. I showed him your post and he said that your rendition of the bullie was good and well worth $35. I would like to recommend that you also try to sell your works in other venues as well. Is there a near-by coffee shop that will let you display some of your art? Maybe a gift shop that will sell some on consignment or will take orders for custom work if they get a small cut of the proceeds? Even if nothing sells, you can get some exposure and can practice your skills and your style.
Good luck with this. I hope you get into a good art collage or a school with a great art department.
No way....
That is a totally reasonable price, in my opinion. I would pay that any day! You are very talented! This is the first that I have seen of your drawings but I really love them. Keep on sellin' them, girlfriend!

Angela
I'm not an expert but
I think your pictures are wonderful. I will be sending you and email picture as soon as I can find the right one. I would like to surprise my hubby for his birthday. Slickster is suppose to be his 40th birthday gift although Slickster follows me around and won't go near him when I am home.
Don't listen to what some inconsiderate person has to say. Keep up the good work and find a good college to go to. Maybe you can get an art scholarship.
Sue
Josh...
i use 50 wieght acid free paper and PRISMACOLOR colored pencils...they are very good quality. Could you email me and explain the rubbing alchol thing? i currently use a PRISMACOLOR blender, but i would love to hear some other ideas...

Thanks!
PS:don't worry about the Prang....i know
your art is beautiful
I would love to have you do an original drawing of my Maggie girl next year when she is done growing.
And I think your price is more than reasonable. You are very talented and your price is your perogative! How dare someone judge you for trying to put yourself through college! And by the way, by definition, if you are creating artwork and selling it for a profit - you ARE a professional. Be proud of your talents!
Yesterday...
Lindsay posted that she uses 9x12, thick, acid free paper with PRISMACOLOR colored pencils.
My Gosh!
Lindsay I am sorry to hear that!
Some people are just flat out ignorant.
Your pictures a wonderful! Dont let anyone else tell you otherwise.
artwork~
hi there!first off let me tell you that you do a excelent job on your artwork. There is always going to be somebody who puts someone else's goals and dreams down-why?I really do not know, some people are just cruel! But you need to keep your chin up!i see good, and others do to,also most important is that you see good-and that is all that matters!
If they do not want to pay that price,ok. there will be some one down the road who will be willing!
In todays world it is very important that ouryoungsters(even though I am still a young chic at 25-LOL) get support from adults!I feel personally that you have set some good goals in your adult life!As a mother of two young kids myself-I would feel very proud to know that my child is selling her prized artwork to help lesson the burdon of collage dues! That is very generous and un-selfish of you!!
Keep you chin up&continue your excllent work!Do not let your dreams weither away because of one person!Keep your head up&Keep up the excllent work!!
Jennifer
let me say...
First, I think your portraits are great! I am having someone do one of my Otis and she is charging me $125.00. She is not a professional either, but I have seen her work and she's AMAZING! Go on the internet and check out other artist's prices... No way. Give me a few months and I will be getting another one done of my Otis and I will gladly give you what you want for them. I think that you are inexpensive! Even if you charged less someone would complain. So phoeey on them. Don't take less, your time, supplies and artistic ability is what you should charge for accordingly.... Good luck! You are a sweet girl!
No, not at all
Lindsey, Your price is fine. I don't think that is too expensive for a drawing of our babies. I have just sent you an email with mine. I hope to purchase a couple from you (if you can do cat's too).
I know how college is and I think it is great that you are earning some money for it. Good luck.
it all depends on.........
First I have been in art all of my life, if your asking about the price it all depends on a few things. This is the first time Ive ever seen your drawings or read anything about.
Alot depends on what the material you are using to determine value.
What kind of paper is it, size, weight of paper, is it acid free (if not then over a few years paper turns a nasty yellow and it starts to deteriate), what is the media you are using to draw your pics.
I suggest from my own opinion that it is a good Idea to use bristol board with minimum of 100lbs wieght, that is vellum finished. the paper makes all the difference it comes in a pad with 20 sheets for about $20. and its acid free
It looks like you are using color pencils as your chosen media. Reg. color pencils are ok, I see that you are using them to mix, I'm if you want a true mix and very smooth finish I also suggest using PRISMACOLOR. These are waxy, so you can easilly blend them, they come in a wide array of colors, if you want a real good blend that is smooth you can use alittle rubbing alcohol that melts the wax and blends the colors. they cost about .99 (believe me when I say they are worth it) the only downside is that they are not very forgiving.
These are my own opinions. I know art supplies are very expensive but you pay for what you get.
I can't stress this DO NOT USE PRANG, your pics are to good to use this below student grade material.
people?!
Only $35. Sounds like a bargain to me, and an admirable initiative on your part. If someone thinks it's too expensive they dont have to participate. For $2 that guy can buy a box of crayola's and have a ball. Keep your head up and realize in business (as I am well aware) you meet all kinds, dont let it bother you. As you progress through life you'll run in to that guy time and again, otherwise it would be TOO easy.
nope
i've never seen him post or anything...
