Would it be ok to buy a pup whose father is registered by the CKC and whose mother is registered by the AKC. Does the CKC make a difference. The breeder said the pups would be CKC registered. I'm not worried about breeding or showing so I most likly will not register my dog. Does it matter if the father is CKC and not AKC registered.
Thanks for any input.

Re: CKC Long...sorry
Although my Arthur is registered with the CKC, (not Canadian) I'm very displeased with them. They do not, I'm afraid, check out each individual breeder, and this will allow several dogs of different breeds into the system which is really inexcuseable.
I'm displeased with them over not providing adequate regulations for competetion. It seems they are more interested in registration. I'm not aware that they will register 'mutts', but they do recognize all 449
of purebreds. They will register dogs that are currently registered with AKC. I also know that AKC has registered a American Staffordshire Terrier and a Rottwieller that were not purebred, but conformed to the standard. They were registered under ILP after
certification of alteration of the dog.
The Olde English Bulldogge breed is not recognized by the AKC although it has been an established breed for 30 years with a standard. I've requested FSS papers from the AKC so Arthur can enter Confirmation, CD, and Obed. competitions in the Misc. class.
I was upset with the AKC for not recognizing the OE
breed, as they accepted him to take the CGC Test (which he passed with flying colors).
If a breeder mentions CKC, you want to see the parents of the dog (both), ALL Vet records of them and the pup to that point. Also, get references of previous buyers, vets, Obed. schools, breeders...etc. Insist on a contract..have a lawyer check it out if you have questions. This should be done with ANY breeder.
My Arthur is a great, healthy example of the OE breed, and has been accepted by the VBA and IOEBA.
It would be fantastic to see and Olde prance with an
English at Westminster. (My dream).
Take care,
will pray for you and your situation.

Are you the same Josh T that was talking about a whole litter of pups being stolen?? If so, could you please send me that persons # if you still have it??
Thank you,
Lisa
Let's not forget about CKC in Canada....
If it the Canadian Kennel Club then it is just as reputable as the American Kennel Club. I understand there is a CKC in the states that is not very reputable. Find out which one it is.
CKC = Either Canadian or Continental Kennel Club
The Canadian Kennel Club is as reputable a registry as the American Kennel Club. In the situation you describe and if you are referring to the Canadian Kennel Club, I believe the pups would only be registered by the Canadian Kennel Club if the dam was first registered with the Canadian Kennel Club whether the pups were born in the US or Canada.

Thank you everyone
Thank you everyone for all your info on this situation. I live in SC so I have a feeling that they are not registered with the Canadian kennel club, but the continental. You have all persuaded my decision to stay away from any breeder registered to the Continental kennel club
Sorry I had to...
I had to go and take my dog out
Josh
Josh,
Are you still there??

Josh,
There is usually a under lying cause why a dog is registered with CKC instead of AKC. Many times a breeder has been suspended form AKC, has a dog that is not eligible (maybe it was a mix breed dog with no record) and it is just best to avoid any troubles and stay clear from that. There is several issues at hand but the heneral point has already been made. Now their is 2 CKC's, 1 is the cotinetal kennel club which is in the USA and what were all talking about here. The other CKC is in CANADA, that is a very respected registry and Canada's version of our AKC. In this case I think your talking about the CKC in the USA and best to avoid it! Good Luck
You have...
I'm sorry for the ordeal that you have had to go through.
You have certainly persuaded me. I also had no idea what the difference was.
Thank you so much for sharing this.

He did have surgery on Monday on right knee/tibia...n/m

Here is my baby "walking" towards me...
PLEASE DO (long)
I bought a CUTE puppy that was CKC before I knew the difference. He is now 1 year old (March 25) and just had surgery on a luxating patella (knee cap). He was refered to an orthopedic surgeon to fix his rear end but they wanted 2400.00 per back leg and couldn't guarantee that would make him better. He was diagnosed with hip dysplasia, luxating patella (the worst three vets had seen) and bowed, rotated tibias. This was all hereditary and of course I had no contract for help from the breeder. I didn't register him because I didn't intend on breeding him, so when I asked the CKC for help with the breeder I got nothing more than them wanting me to register him before they would even talk to me. I asked them what the point in registering a pet who couldn't walk and was neutered for? They just want the money as do alot of backyard breeders, they just don't care what happens to these poor animals after they get their money. Not only do you not want a CKC registered animal, you DO NEED a contract from a reputable breeder. Believe me it is much cheaper to pay 1800.00-2000.00 for a healthy guaranteed pup than it is to have cherry eye repaired twice on both eyes, mange treated twice so far and 4800.00 worth of surgery on a 1 year old dog. And just because it is AKC doesn't guarantee it either. Hope this helps you make your decision. Malinda, Flash and Quigly
YES!!!!! nm

so should i.....
So should I stay away from any breeder with a CKC registry.
CKC
You can register mixed breed mutts with CKC. And you can not register a litter from an AKC mother and CKC father with AKC.
