Hi Guys , Molly got the stiches on the inside, and I'm wondering if thers anyone else here who has ... its wierd, but I dont like how her incision looks...It looks like this red piece of small sized rope that goes down the area where they made the incision... has anyone else experienced this, also when you got your bully spayed, did they bleed at all?? We have noticed a little blood here and there coming from Mollys incision..
Spay
Frannie, I know you live in southern NJ but how far from Woodbury? I would definitely take her to a vet that knows bulldogs if you haven't already. This vet you are using do they see many bulldogs? A vet that does knows that the sutures used for other breeds is not good for bulldogs as the fatty acid in their system melts some sutures before the incision heals.
Very true!!!
I have heard of some really bad horror stories regarding stomach incisions in bullies. Either spays or C-section. The stomach surface of the bully has more weight per sq. inch than the average dog creating more pressure at the incision site. a breeder i know went to get her bully's stitches out after a c-section and the incision re-opened and her intestines fell out on the table. This is serious because infection can occur quite easily. The dog was fine but the vet was a mess. She stayed with the dog all night she felt so bad. This can happen. i would take her back to the vet and get her looked at.
??
Good questins, Margaret. I should have thought to ask those also. Thanks!!

Questions
Is/were the the two sides where the incision was pulled completely together by the stitches initially? Is the red rope of tissue where the incision is, right where the scar will form? Is this red tissue the part that bleeds? Is it just a spot or two. Sometimes in cuts there is granulation tissue that forms when the tissue is healing and that is friable and bleeds easily. Does the incision look like it is closed completely still. If so, good. If not, go in right away. Is there any pink or orange redness around the incision back on the skin away from it? Three shouldn't be as that would be a concern of infection.
Webbie might have some ideas, too. You could email him.

I would definitely at least try to telephone your vet and ask these questions. If he is not available, try a vet hospital that has emergency hours. I do not think that bleeding is normal at all.
