Southeastern Breeder Referral Request

Hi, I was hoping that someone might be able to point me in the direction of a good breeder that has puppies currently available, or will soon. I've looked at the breeder referral page, and unless I missed something, none of the breeders within a 3 or 4 hour drive from Atlanta that are listed have any at the moment. My SO and I have been thinking about and researching getting a bulldog since last fall. We would like to get a puppy soon, because due to his schedule changes and me getting laid off and going back to school, there will be someone home 24/7 until September at the very least to take care of a new puppy.

We were hoping that we would find someone fairly close by, but we would go anywhere within a day's drive from Atlanta.

Thanks for any suggestions, my email is ad531@earthlink.com. I've really enjoyed lurking on the boards here. (oh, and if it worked, that's my 7 year old sweetie boxer, Windsor B., in the picture.)

BCA Breeder Referral

Alison,
Who are you trying to contact with BCA Breeder referral? I am the point of contact for Division VIII, which includes Georgia, and have had a grand total of two breeder referral requests in the past two weeks, both of which heard back from me the same day. My e-mail and phone # should be linked from the BCA site - if it's not, please feel free to use the link above.

There is also the Bulldog Club of Metro Atlanta in your area, with a lot of great, active bulldoggers. I'd be happy to give you the contact info for their secretary so you can see when their meetings are.

You might have to look beyond the 3-4 drive mark

Many many people drive 8-12 hours away to go to a good breeder for their perfect pooch. We did!

It makes for an eventful ride home (usually almost twice as long wtih all the pee-stops) but gives you a WONDERFULLY behaved car-rider in the future.

(We really do attribute Grover's calmness to the fact that that was his introduction to us!)

Good luck to you and give the BCA time and also, REALLY don't give up on shows. They are truly the best way to meet good breeders. Your (extremely creepy!) situation was very unusual I think.

Re: I sent you an email

Hello,
Forst welcome to the board and taking the time to find a good breeder is very nice first step.
Now you will not get anyone to reply witha breeders name here onthe forum as that would violate the forum rules to mention a breeder by name. Since you ask about getting a puppy taht is fine, your email addres is there, but if a person replied with John doe or whatever they would be doing a ad for that breeder and that is a no-no here.

also the BCA does seem to be very slow at sending referals out for some reason, that has always been something they need to improve on from what I hear. If you have looked at our breeders listing there is some available in the south now as I was talking with a few breeders the other day. I won't mention names as I can't play favorites to any breeder. Local shows and clubs will help a great deal also.

im going to crop my pic to look like that

peek-a-boo!!!

I sent you an email

with a couple of ideas of how to locate bulldog club members to get referrals from for the ATlanta area or the Southeast. Also, info on how to locate a show close to you. I forgot to add www.infodog.com as a site to look for shows, too.

Re: well, i would give the shows another chance!

Oh, don't worry, we're not going to do that. We're going to try to get one within the next few weeks/month or so, but if we don't find a breeder that we're comfortable with, and the puppy we think is "the one", we'll keep looking. That's why I'm looking for breeder referrals, because we are not going to just buy one from a picture on the internet, from a pet store, or from an ad in the paper. There are plenty of ads for bulldogs, but I just don't trust them.

I might try to go to a show. I might be too hesitant to actually speak to anyone, though. When I went before, this crazy man that I had spoken to (didn't realize he was crazy at the time) looked up my home phone number and called me. And he wasn't very nice. I was only about 21/22 at the time, so it really scared the crap out of me.

well, i would give the shows another chance!

I've met some awesome people at shows!

Please please please don't jump the gun and get the first bullie available that you can find. I know it's hard, but it will save you in the long run!

Re: i love your pic, how it's like he's peeking in thru a hole a

Thanks! That was actually a "mistake" picture of him with the digital camera, but when it was printed out, it was hilarious. I love it.

I meant to say this in the original post, we have already requested a referral from the BCA several weeks ago, but have not gotten a reply yet. I figured that it wouldn't hurt to get a few more opinions.

It's probably silly of me, but I am pretty wary of going to dog shows. I had a very bad experience at one around the time I got Windsor.

i love your pic, how it's like he's peeking in thru a hole at me

If you don't seem satisfied with those breeders on the website, contact the Bulldog Club of America and go to shows in your area and get to know the breeders and dogs there!

Good Luck....but please be slow and patient when finding a bullie.
