This is soooo sad... need advice

I took Emmy to Petco yesterday for her treats, and there was a little looked like ****zu pup there. It was probably like 6-9 months old (it looked like it still had puppy teeth). The grooming dept said that someone dropped it off and gave them a fake name and phone number. She said I could have it if I wanted it. I was holding it and it was growling really low. It never offered to bite but it still would growl at times. Do you think that this is something I can deal with as I have 3 dogs already and a 4 year old. It just broke my heart. Need advice on the growling part. That is the only thing that held me back. I have till 4pm today. Thanks.

Shih Tzu

I have 5 dogs...Yorkie,Lhasa Apso,English Bulldog, Cockapoo and a Shih Tzu. If you have the time and patience to give that angel a home you will be rewarded
with so much love in return. You must understand this
though, that puppy probably was abused in some way and
it will take some time for him to come around.
If you find that you can't take him in there is a wonderful rescue called Shih Tzu and Furbaby rescue located in Jacksonville, Florida.

I so agree with all Lynn said...

follow your heart..but you have a small child..and if this pupster gets to your home it will need a lengthy time of introductions ,sniff and greets through a gate..or a safe area
...and the temperment of your first three is very important...

let us know what you do ...this little one obviously needs love too...
and if it was dumped..the people had their own issues..so the pupster may have some too...

as for the one more? yeah like I'm going say anything about that...chuckle..
here Church...here Silent Pacer..here Bean Bag..here Hawk..Here Cody ..here MoJo...grin...ce

Poor little guy..he is probably very frightened, If you feel another dog is to much for you right now definately look into rescue, there are many who speacialize in this breed. What city are you in?

Growling

Lisa,

Dogs growl to give warning that they are not comfortable with the situation. It could be the approach of a strange dog, person, sound etc. The environment in which you were introduced to this dog would certainly provoke a small dog to growl, he is just probably overwhelmed. We see this all the time at the shelter. This dog is in a foreign place and you are a total stranger. Whether or not it can be worked out with you depends on the dynamics of your household. Can you put this dog in its own area during a prolonged introduction? Can you keep your 4 year old away from the dog until you can determine its temperment, so you can observe its reaction to your child without allowing contact, testing the dog for resource guarding. How are your other dogs with new dogs?

Good luck

Wow, I do believe that everything happens for a reason so

maybe you were meant to have this little pup?!? Or help find it a new home... I think "what's one more?" and the growling is probably her/his way of expressing his nervousness at being in a strange place with strange people... but if it didn't bite then it's probably something that will not last once she's "at home" again.

oh that is sad....do what your heart says..it's ok to post Shih

I'm sorry that this happened, but don't feel pressured to take in a doggie in if you can't. Do what your heart says.
