sooo many great names on the board for bulldogs
how did you come up with the name of your bulldog
Bella ..I wanted an old fashioned name. MY ex said to name her Bella. that is also his MOM's name..lol but the name was great it suited Bella to a tee. I love her name. at the time there was not that many Bella's for names of any breed of dog..not that way anymore..though.
Gus was named after a cartoon character on TV. the moment I met Gus..he was the household clown at the breeders as a puppy. Gus suited him really good. he lives up his name all the time. still is the household clown..lol although Gus is deaf..I still call him Gus and use a hand sign with an x over my chest.. I love the name Gus
so how did you come up with your name of your bulldog?
Nope.---
When I got them, I had no intentions at all of showing. They were my pets only, and so they were neutered.

Jimmy Choo AKA Chooie for the shoes
Mark, Rene', Bettis & Turbo
"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole" Caras
I got Audrey Hepbull from
a baby name site. I LOVE looking up names, and I knew I wanted my bully girl to have an old English name. I had 3 names, and Audrey just FIT my baby. I always add a mental "Hepburn" when I think "Audrey", so it was a natural shift to make her "Hepbull". When I get my male bulldog (someday) his name will be Hmphrey Bullgart. Ijust love Audrey Hepbull and Humphrey Bullgart! I also loved Scarlet Bull'Hara, but Rhett Bulltler wasn't working for me.

Cathy

I just loved reading how the bulldogs were named and had to share the story my babies. Having the love of gardening, I named my prescious 11 year old Petunia (the brindle one) after one of my favorite flowers and then along came Daisy who was named after another favorite flower of mine. They are my flower children.... Please meet them:)

agree..they do know body language ...
Gus is deaf but he sure does pick up on the body language as do the rest of the dogs.
alot of dog training is with hand signs and body language and you are right the energy as well..
I have to agree that talking is not the biggest thing when it comes to teaching a dog.
any dog can communicate well without likely.
that came out of the deaf dog study I did with the vet too. all her dogs did really well the 2 days that she did not talk to her dogs as the 2 days that I did not talk to my dogs. they all did fine..with just signs, body language and energy..
we both treated our dogs as deaf for the 2 days. it was cool and fun and we learned lots about dogs in general.
lol at the nic names...
too cute
love them
their short names.....
Vito we call Vito, Veet or mainly Papa and of coarse Bohunk! lol!

Luigi is Weegee, Louie Beans, Louie, Squarepants, Sweet Lou, and of coarse Bohunk!
Santino is Tino, TT, Scooter, Scooter Pie, Little Baby, and of coarse Bohunk!
they are known here as The Bohunk Boys!

Boris' name..
My husband chose his name a year before we got him. We always knew we wanted a white bully and his name would be Boris. It fits him perfectly!

Boris
Cool Story
Barb you already know just how much I love your crew. You're boys are such hunks all in their own way. Eve is a beauty and is a great addition to your fam.

Re: soo many great names of bulldogs on BDW..how did you come up
All Abby ever heard was Abby No! so thats how I got her name. Fits her perfectly.
Brenda and Abby NO!
Re: soo many great names of bulldogs on BDW..how did you come up
Mine are named after musicians or songs, except Ollie. Her name was given to her by the breeder--Olivia. I shortened it to Ollie because it fits her better. Moze's name is Mozart. I named our first bully Schubert after Franz Schubert (love that music). My big tabby cat is named after the Beach Boys song about the Deuce Coupe. I love Mozart, but he answers to Mozie. If I say Mozart really high pitched, he gets very bouncy! LOL
![[linked image]](http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj68/pianowoman41/th_DadandSchub-1.jpg)
Maggie, Moze, Ollie,
...and always Schubert
Chester is named after the guy in Gunsmoke...
that had a limp since he was born with a bad leg. Oliver was one of the original O's (Oscar, Ollie and Oreo).
Kathy, Ollie and Chester
Gus just sounded like a good name for a Bulldog to me
nm

We found 'Maybull' in a baby naming book
It was an alternative spelling for Mable but as soon as I saw it, I knew it was perfect.
you can see the tomboy in her...from your threads..
nice to see how she got her name
I love her name as well
very neat names on this board..for bulldogs
Josie Lousie..sounds like a great name for her..love the name
Ruf is around 63 lbs and Remy is 59 lbs.---
Both these boys are solid...very hard muscled. Duffy is around 55 lbs.; he's bigger boned than the Russians, but doesn't have the muscle mass they have.

![[linked image]](http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2595/3923034899_1c8c40b6cd.jpg)
Ruf was 10 weeks old when he came here, and Remy was 4 months old. They adjusted just fine and didn't seem to have any problems learning what I wanted from them. I don't think language is much of a barrier when it comes to dogs; they understand body language and energy levels better than words.
Well Josie Louise
As everyone knows, Josie is a rescue. Her name was Jazman, and when I think of Jasmine i think if delicate, frail, small, and subdued. Well Josie is anything but those, but I wanted a name that was close so it wouldnt be hard for her to switch. Joes and Jaz sound simmiliar and my moms middle name is Lou and my beau's moms name is Lou, so I went with Josie Louise. Josie is very much a tomboy name and that fits her to a tee! She has very few girlie ways, but her white eyelashes and sweetness make up for no frillies. So that is how Josie came to be......J & T
so how big are your bullies?? about a Russian Bulldog....
so I take it the bullies do not speak english when they got here then? or ..
very nice looking bulldogs she has there..
love the names..
always wander if the bulldogs that came from these other countries..how they would adapt here..
how old were they when they came from Russia??
Gia is a nice name..love it..
neat how your names with go together
George is a very very suitable to a bulldog
just suits their personality..great name
Thanks Barb!
We hope sooner than later:)
Well Pat,---
Our first bullie was getting along in years (7, going on 8) so I wanted to get another bulldog that could have some time with him. I looked at many, many websites, but kept going back to the kennel in Russia because I liked the looks of their bulldogs. Ruf made the trip over here just fine (there was a lay-over in Amsterdam) and I totally LOVED this guy.

![[linked image]](http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2595/3923034899_1c8c40b6cd.jpg)
He and Bowzer (our 1st bullie) got along splendidly! They were only together for about 4 months when Bowzer was peacefully put to sleep because he had developed lymphoma...who knew their time together would be so short?
Not too long after Bowzer's death, I wanted another companion for Rufus, so I went back to the same kennel because I was so pleased with Ruf. Remy and Ruf got along from the get go...honestly, it's like there's some kind of special comraderie between the two!
BTW, I still stay in contact with their breeder, even though she's no longer breeding bullies anymore...I consider her a friend.
well that is neat too..
great name for a bulldog

Dale is a great name..
I like the name Frogknot,---

Melissa,---
"Gia" is going to be SO perfect when you get your girl!
![[linked image]](http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2595/3923034899_1c8c40b6cd.jpg)
Our first Bulldog MiMi the Snow Queen
was named after the character MiMi on the Drew Carey show. When we first got her it looked like she had mascara & lipstick on with her pigment. One episode is where MiMi wanted to be the Snow Queen at the parade - hence the name "MiMi the SNow Queen" was our sweet girls name....
Kym
Bullyfulbulldogs
My gangs' names.---
Rufus: his original name was "Rococo". I liked the name "Rufus" though, and it still started with an "R", so I changed it to that. It's amazing how much the name "Rufus" fits him!

Remy: his original name was "Remy Martin"...I loved it, so kept it. Funny thing; it fits perfectly with Remy's character too! Both Rufus and Remy came from the same kennel in Russia, so I like that their names start with "R"...to this day I refer to the two of them as "my Russians".
Duffy: this was his given name, and it fits him perfectly, so I kept it.
Eve: I was allowed to name her after she was born, because I knew she was going to be mine, and her breeder wanted me to name her...it's kind of a long story. I had Eve's sister originally; she was the only female in the litter, and I got her as a show potential bulldog. She was a deep red with white markings, just like my Eve. When she was only 14 months old, she ran out into the street in front of our house to see some people who were walking by (I was getting ready to take her and her brothers on a walk, and she was in the garage with me)and ran right out in front of an SUV that my friend was driving. She was pinned under the wheel...did not get totally run over, and barely had a scratch on her externally, but suffered severe internal damage which caused her to "bleed out"...she didn't make it, needless to say.
When my breeder (and very good friend) heard about Emma's traumatic death, he told me he would do a repeat breeding of Emma's parents and try to get me another girl. Well, miracle of miracles, there was another litter...3 boys and 1 girl...my Eve! I named her "Eve" because I wanted the name to be somewhat similar to my sweet Emma, and also, I'm hoping for her to be the foundation bitch for my breeding program. Needless to say, she is VERY special to me (as well as her breeders who have hearts of gold)!
Here's a picture of Emma and Eve so you can see just how similar these two girls are.
Emma (around 1 yr. old)
Eve (around 4 mos. old)
After my 1st bully died, I decided to name all others
with four letters, in honor of FANG, so I've had Plug, Spot, Bear, Mimi, Igor, Suzy, Elmo, Otis, Dale, and perhaps a few others...mind too scattered to recall them all now.
I name after locations
I generally look at maps or, as in the case of Frogknot, I hit the internet searching for unusual town names. (He's named after Frognot Tx)

![[linked image]](http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f105/scribbledpaper/eyeballwave.gif)
I've had North Dakota, Arizona (they were pugs) Bailey is named for Bailey Colorado - it's a nice mountain town... and then there is Frogknot who is my granddaughter's yorkie now.
I may stick with the theme if I ever get another dog.
Vicki, Bailey and Frogknot

George's is kinda simple...
My boyfriend is from Savannah Georgia...and grew up on the Georgia bulldogs. So when we decided on a bulldog, there was no question in our mind that his name could only be "George". And when we get a girl one day, her name will be Gia. Firstly, because I wanted them both to have "G" names and then we realized that when you put George and Gia together, it spells Georgia:)
Farley is very neat too..very unqiue...
would not likely hear too many names with Farley
very pretty name..
suits a bulldog for sure..
wow Gretl..that is where I remember it from..the Sound of Music.
I love the name Monster for a bulldog as well
Grover is cute....Grover was a very interesting character on the show.
and Gretl..that was a wonderful movie the sound of music. Gretl was very special in the movie as is your Gretl. wander if they spell Gretl the same in the movie...as you spell Gretl. plus the fact of going to Germany. good idea ..suits here good too.
thanks for sharing your great names Julia
wow always wander how Zimmer got his name...
that is too cool..
do you just call him by Zimmer??
that is a great nmae for a bulldog
Monster, Grover and Gretl...
Monster was my first, and I loooove the Muppets and Jim Henson. Cookie Monster is my favorite, and when I saw him and his brindle coat, he looked like a chocolate chip cookie. So, his name was Cookie Monster my maiden name-my married name and we called him Monster.

I tried so many names on her, as everyone knows I didn't name her for a while after she moved in...
LOL... Her full name is Donna Martin Graduates though.
Again, as everyone knows. LOL!
![[linked image]](http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2594/4266905553_f7da359383_m.jpg)
We lost him at a young age, so when it came time to fill the void, I wanted to honor him and stick with the Muppet theme. Grover was Super Grover my maiden name-my married name, and his white fur made a cape on his shoulders where it met his brindle.
I considered keeping with the Muppet theme with this one, but that was a lifetime ago for me... I decided to honor Grover by keeping with the "Gr"... and I wanted to somehow give her a German name since I lost Grover as I was practically on my way out the door for a week in Germany for work.
I majored in theatre and music and am a musical theatre nut. Gretl is the youngest daughter in the Von Trapp family in the Sound of Music... granted, they were in Austria, but it still worked.
