Some thoughts-

I don't think these are going to go over well but this is what I am thinking,

Whatever money that to this point is over the required fee they are chargeing for Cody should go to either, toys, vet, or caravan costs. I do not think extra money should be donated towards the vet costs because I think as the new dogs owners that responcibility should be yours(unless there is something really really wrong with him-more so than a routine neuter, vet check etc. It he needs a 1000 surgery that is another story)

Just my thoughts-if you guys wern't going this Saterday(as I will be out of town) I would be happy to take a piece of the drive!

PS I think it is absolutely wonderful that this site donated so much money so fast for a good cause. I think it was amazing!

Thank you Ce-you said exactly what I was trying to say!

Quite eloquent, Ce .....

Throwing rose petals from Montana! Ooops, no rose petals.

Throwing twinkly snowflakes from Montana!

Clarifing my comment

I really didn’t mean anything bad by what I said. I think you are doing a wonderful thing for Cody and I think everyone involved are very wonderful people. That is why I sent a donation.

This all came about so quickly. I was just commenting on what I have been involved with before and how we did things (sometime we do things different here in NY).

Please don’t be offended by what I said. In no means did I mean it to sound nasty. I don’t want to be known as the new bad person. I have only becoming here for a few days once I found this forum and hope I will be welcome to stay and participate for a long time.

I am just looking forward to seeing pictures of all of you on Cody’s trip home!

Sue

Agree with Ce 100%...

I nominate Ce for treasurer

of the official Bulldogsworld Emergency Bully fund!

Kris

okay let me clarify...

all the funds collected for Cody will indeed go to Cody, unless I were to get specific requests for the amounts donated by that person to do otherwise. ....
and when I said I was in the middle of it...that went with my statement of me not expecting my travel expenses covered ..not with giving me the power, right or abilities to direct anyones monies wherever I felt it was best used...I have been entrusted by ya'all to collect and handle the monies for the Cody quest.
..and I would never do otherwise...

my further comments were how I feel and think about owner responsiblities..and when there is more collected then possibly needed for the emegency..and how they might better serve and help those in need....ce

Yes me too

You nailed it dead on... We've helped pay for one really expensive older bully - so it's only natural for her to take on the cost's of getting him healthy. Its just like having a baby.

I hear ya...

I hear what you are saying Ce.....

Although it has been my experience that when ever we have collected monies for an emergency (whether it be for an animal or a person) all monies collected from people donating to that cause it giving to that person (their family or for that animal). The people in charge of collecting the monies don't say, ok your bills are done we are going to take the money donated for this specific cause and give it to someone (or something) else.

This is just my opinion and it really doesn't count for much. I know my donation will be used for a good cause whichever way it is used.

Sue

Ce, I couldn't have said it better myself. Let share the wealth!

thank you ce, i wondered when someone was going to point out...

the new owners responsibility...

i agree with you wholeheartedly, and i think a fund is a nice idea. management of such a fund is a whole other story. which dog or forum member is worthy of the money? i fear a slippery slope...

"Nations Dogs Dangerously Underpetted"

Your right, Ce, there are so many dogs out there that are not getting everything they need to have a happy anf fullfilling life. Why just today I saw an article in The Onion (see www.theonion.com). This is what it said,
"Nation's Dogs Dangerously Underpetted, Say Dogs

NEW YORK—At a press conference Monday, representatives of the Association of American Dogs announced that the nation's canines are dangerously underpetted. "Every night, thousands of U.S. dogs go to bed without so much as a scritch behind the ears," AAD president Mojo said. "If this sort of neglect from our masters continues, it could lead to widespread jumping on the furniture." Upon his owner's arrival in the press-conference room, Mojo abruptly ended his speech, frantically barking, wiggling, and rolling over on his back in an effort to communicate his need for a vigorous belly rub."

You tell em Mojo!

Ce.....not only do you have a kind, generous heart...

you have the wisdom of Solomon
I'm just happy that I was able to play a small part in Cody's rescue.
My bullie girl Darla is a rescue and I have been so fortunate with her..no health issues..great temperment.
I wish the best to cody and his new family.

Well said Ce...........

I totally agree with everything you said!

okay get your rose petals or rotten tomatoes ready here...

because ...as someone obviously in the middle of all of this...smile..
...here are my thoughts...I think that ya'all have raised an incredible amount of monies..and it rightfully or wrongfully, depending on yur prespectives ,which I do not want to go even there...please.., saved Cody from the hands of the unknown and will give him a chance at a good life in a loving home...
as for myself I offered to take on a large part of the transporting ..and do not want the funds to pay for the gas...it is my volunteered part of the responsiblity...I do think that any neccesities to get him home that will be purchased by Deb being she is starting his journey should be covered..and they will go to Kristae.I don't think any of us need our travel expenses covered ..I know Deb has said so..and Kristae as a new owner would be taking on that cost for any bullie she was adopting as we all did.
...I also think if there is some major health issues ,that I do not expect there to be,and pray there is not...that maybe some of the funds should go there..but and get your tomatoes ready...
kristae you are getting a rescue..paid for by everyones heart here...
and maybe you can talk to your vet about donating and giving you a break on his surgery..but as for the normal responsiblities of ownership such as spaying ,neutering, routine shots..etc..those would fall on any one who chose to accept the commitment to adopt,(and rescues often have baggage).... ..as it has fallen to all of us who bring a heartbeat into our lives...and to those who have adopted rescues...it's part of the package so to speak.
.....if there are extra monies after that I agree it should go to a fund to help those bullies in need ...such as the ones like poor George..and others like him..we all managed to get help Cody ..and he is off to a great start to a new life...but there are so many others..I believe if we can, we should share that generous spirit and help the next one in need...and let the "normal' owner responsiblities stay with the families who choose to adopt knowing that all bullies and all breeds are indeed family and have needs and expenses...
okay tomatoes ready ..aim..and fire....chuckle...love ya all...ce

Gotcha...did misunderstand the first post :) n/m

z

agree emergency fund

is a great idea-

but i think that should be a seperate fund started

I think you guys are missing what i am saying

I agree that whatever is left over should go to this dog in some way shape or form-

I just do not feel that we at this time should have a seperate money drive for vet fees for this dog. This was mentioned earilier in someones post.

KB

same here...

Crate for travel, vet costs to get him to the cond. he needs to be in, toys, whatever- Its all part of getting him out of where he is now and getting him to a better place/family. That was the reason for my donation, (even though I think they are bending us over on the price)- but its the dog I donated to- however it is spent. Just my opinion. Use it on Cody and I will be happy!

Denise...emergency fund is a terrific idea...just think

the money collected for Cody should go there...transportation..food for the trip..
But setting up an emergency fund is a great idea...who knows the way the economy is. Anyone of us here on the board could be faced with emergency vet bills that we could not afford in addition to the rescue groups that can always use a helping financial hand

Re: Some thoughts-

I think that the extra should go towards helping to pay for the gas for the trip, not sure how far, but with the prices today anything will be a help. Then after he is home and has everything that he needs if there is anything left give to a rescue. Just my feelings.

Niki....did not mean to imply otherwise :)

Nikki, I'm with you

I am all for an emergency health fund to be put aside for any owners who find themselves in an emergency situation. I would be more than happy to donate to a fund where I knew my money was going to help dogs in need. Perfect example, the two Las Vegas rescues with the horrible skin problems and feet. I'm sure these foster homes are footing a lot of the medical bills just to get the pups ready for adoption and I wouldn't think twice about helping.

Re: Kelly I hear what you are saying but.....

It was merely an innocent suggestion. I was not even trying to suggest that it was in any way any of my business. As I stated before...just a thought.

Meant to address the above to Nikki.....n/m

x

Kelly I hear what you are saying but.....

this is not your average rescue through say the BCA.
A five year old male in the shape he is in should not command a price of $1000, not to mention what kind of problems his new owners will encounter down the road.
This is a greedy owner who no longer needs Cody's services.
The excess should cover, items Cody may need, vet, transportation costs for the humans transporting him, etc. Just my opinion

I feel and so does Cody's new mom

Say take a vote I feel as long as it goes to help him..car gas --vet bills--toys food.etc.....it is for Cody.

Why not...

stash the monies left over with someone trustworthy for future emergency rescues such as this. People could donate as they wish over time, so the next time something comes up it isn't a major crisis. Kind of like a Christmas Club/Stash for bullies in need. Just a thought.

That is a good point and I like this idea although...

I don't care too too much where my donation goes because it will all even itself out in the long run and will end up benefiting Cody which is the wish for my donation.
