I am laughing but I am peeved..
I posted a pic of Gus and Max playing with the jolly ball outside..on a pug board. I lurk there and do not post often..but wow I got over 10 emails explaining to me that the bullies are rough breed dogs and not fit to be around a pug.. I just ignored the emails. I just will not post another pic of Gus or Bella for that matter ever. to know a bulldog is too see how gentle they are. both of my bullies are great with the pugs here. actually if the truth was known the pugs can have quite the attitude with the bullies on occasion. I have seen Gus..put a pug in his paws..to show them who is boss but he has never hurt one or a flea for that matter.
[IMG][/IMG]
this is the photo in question.. as if..Gus gives in and gives Max the ball...all the time..
.....
then there is my mother. wow she really gets to me to on occasion. was telling her about the board and how there are some really nice looking bulldogs and mentioned the word Champion bulldog. well that did it.she went on and on..how they do not have a life...and so on. I told her that I had seen 3 show homes already in my life..one was a boston breeder, one was a pug breeder and one of them a bulldog show home..and ALL THE DOGS were on the couches, in the beds, playing outside and so on. she said well what happens if they get muddy or something..I said do you think they sit around all day and just do their nails..hahaha. SHOW DOGS I am sure are pets first..and show dogs second..that is my feelings anyhow on any that I have met.. where do people get these ideas from??? lol.
so I find that I have to educate people about bulldogs...again and again..
sad really..with this great breed of dog..the bulldog
I agree stress that fact to everyone that I meet.........
I have a girlfriend that is really afraid of my bulldogs...no idea why..
they do not even bark..but the size she finds intimidating..
they are gentle
I agree some people might see them as fighting dogs but truly the companion dog is the best trait of the english bulldog..
I always feel is someone has something negative to say about the bulldog
it is there LOSS not mine..
and I stick to that..
I know better..
I will always have a bulldog forever..
I love them..
Well Bulldogs LOOK "tough" and...
are portrayed in the cartoons as being that way. They were bred for fighting years ago, but I always highlight the fact that they've been bred as COMPANION DOGS for the past couple hundred years!

NEVER had an issue..until the pic was posted Cheryl...
I did respond to the one email in particular about them..but then after that just kept my thoughts to myself.. Maybe I will send off a few more emails to these people that Got the wrong idea of this nice breed..the bulldog.
they love to play together.. people just have it in their mind that they are tough...
if people take that the wrong way
so what.. that is them.. I Know I have both breeds. at the moment all 5 of the dogs are at my feet at the laptop..
they do not own the dogs and for sure have no idea...what a bulldog is about..
they are big mushes..lol I love the breed..
MY Mother on the other hand gets her idea from watching too many dog shows in suits and dresses and not talking to people that own these dogs..
especially hearing Gabes story and his antics... people like my MOM makes me shake my head sometimes..
not knocking my MOM she is 75 but still....I TOLD HER exactly how it is...with her I am not afraid of voicing my opinion..and especially with the bulldog
she is also the type of person that would have turned Gus over to rescue and not dealt with his deaf issues either. she made mention to that a few times..but SHE does not know Gus enough to make a comment like that..for sure. Gus is the best bulldog..I love his antics..deaf or not and he manages fine..
LOL made me laugh...
yea can see that happening..
cute response.
made me chuckle
good idea..I say another bulldog...
frenchies here in Ontario are few and far between
I love looking at the show dogs..
I would go for another bulldog
2 bullies are great together for playmates..
athough here Bella still perfers the pugs..lol
Maybe they just need to get the TRUTH...
from someone who has firsthand experience with these "tough" dogs! People make their opinion based on what they see/hear and it would seem seeing a photo like yours with the two of them having a grand time would help give them a different one! Don't be afraid to tell them the truth! I'm sure SOME of EACH breed are cantankerous...but that's not the norm!

Ha! whatever!
My 5 lb chi is the boss of this house and my bullies are scared to death of him!
much bully love~Christine, Dupree, Marley and Savannah
Re: cute cute PICS Sue...
I really need to get charlie a dog closer to his size to play with.
I am researching frenchies right now, but a show potential frenchie is impossible to find..I like going to shows .
Maybe another bulldog?
I total agree..ignore them..works for me..
they play nonstop together outside..
no worries at all here
and they get along fine..
I KNOW the truth...
see it everyday..
Surprised
Wow, I'm surprised people went so far as to email you. Obviously you wouldn't be keeping the dogs together if there was a problem. Just looking at the picture they are having fun playing together. Ignore them, you know the truth!
cute cute PICS Sue...
yea I know..
some people just have no idea..
makes me laugh ..
they need to own a bulldog to know them..
Max is far more assertive then Gus..big time more...lol
but they do play all the time together..
LOL
Charlies best friend and enemie is Katee my 5 pound papillon.

she constantly beats up charlie.. I do watch them when they play rough, but Katee gives far more that she gets. She is the dominate dog in our home.
katee and charlie when charlie was a pup
OH OH..that happens here all the time...lol
Gus is famous for running at the tv.
he watches the pedigree pal commerical on television and he takes a good run at it..
it is actually quite funny to watch
Gus is deaf..but a dog is a dog ..lol
he also chases his relection in the fireplace too..and runs at himself..
full of antics
if more of these people owned a bulldog..they would see for themselves what they are about..
my girlfriend is just intimidated like crazy with Gus and no idea why. she is better with Bella but NOT much..she owned a german shephard so this makes no sense..at all..
My friends have the same misconception
A few of them have voiced concern over my interest in a "dangerous breed". The silliest thing is that they all base this conclusion on knowing one poorly-trained bull-type dog in the past. One friend even thinks bulldogs are aggressive because one she knew used "bark at other dogs on TV and try to headbutt the television". WTH.
there you go..great pic..
see not the only pug and bulldog family..
great pic
thanks for sharing..
no idea what started with the pug people
on the thread the pic was ok...but it was the email that drove me nuts..
the bullies and pugs get along great here
numerous pics of bullies and pug playing and such..
just ignored the emails and continue..lol
best buddies.....pic
Don't they look so sweet together? Maverick and Max with Forrest lounging in the background!

that is why I laughed Cathy...I KNOW you treat them right..lol
what does she think really..
they is why I laughed and said that
you think they do their nails all day...lol
seriously she really needs to get out there and talk to some breeders and find out for herself..
I realize that show dogs are special. I have no doubt in my mind about that..
but from seeing show dogs in their homes and the ones on this board especially and all the stories..in fact I think the other day someone posted a show dog that had mudd on them in the mug shots..
no idea where her thinking comes from
glad you laughed..
as did I
I enjoy all the cool threads on the show dogs and such too but I also enjoy all the antics like any other bulldog that is out there...on the board.
if anyone has great companion dogs it is YOU..
I still think I need to send her Gus for a bit and see what a bully is all about..lol
and two show dogs on the couch and puppies..HOW cool is that.. she does not get it..seriously..
LOL...
Two of my champion girls are on the couch beside me with the 9 week old pups jumping up to play with them, trying their best to make it up on the couch with them. They look like pretty happy campers to me.

My kids know when the show stuff starts getting packed, and they sit at the door waiting for me to say come'on! The ones that don't show anymore pout when they don't get to go.

good way to put it..
some people just have the wrong idea of what a bulldog is about..
I think also on message boards..like this pug one..
people are more brave and not afraid to send off an email...
not knowing someone or some dog..
in person that would likely not happen
never had anyone talk wrongly of my dogs on the streets out for a walk and i walk the bullies all the time..
maybe my MOM..needs to borrow Gus for a few weeks to change her mind..lol.
I think if she was with him all the time..her tune would change..
Gus is a very likeable bulldog..and a great pet..
When I talk to little girls...about +/- 10yrs old...I tell them
that my dog's teeth may rub on their legs when the dog sniffs them, but not to worry, the dog isn't trying to bite or anything...its just that the front teeth stick out SO FAR that they sometimes tough before the lips do. Of course it doesn't always happen, but sometimes I've had a bully 'roll under' their top lip in a kind of 'smile' posture...anyway the idea is just to put the girls at ease. And surprisingly this seems to give them some special pleasure in feeling 'brave' to have let the dog's teeth touch their bare little knees.
