well waking up today to not talk to the dogs was really really hard.
I am soo used to it
but today is the 2 phase of the deaf dog study so no talking today..
only signs
treat them as deaf..dogs all 5 of them..
well the good thing is that I made a turkey yesterday for good treats to start this off this am.
they got up at 6am. early early for me but OH well.. such is life with dogs sometimes.
showed them the turkey and out they went. I have a fenced in yard and they came back in ..
all was cool ..until the first dog discussion they had...but they sorted that out and continued along.
I notice that the hearing dogs and that is 4 of them..since I am not talking to them..are using much more eye contact and watching me much more closely. that is a good thing.
the pugs are easy to teach sign language since they are food driven..
Bella is a bit harder the bully..since she can very stubborn and not as food driven as the pugs..
Gus is deaf so he does it naturally.. he is great with his signs
I am hoping that Gus will show the other dogs the tricks of the trade today.
at lunch in go the ear plugs for the afternoon and see how it feels to be deaf myself. that way I will have to read the signs of the dogs as well... and their posture and things.
so no noise
no radio
no distractions
just a quiet ME..lol
silence is golden......
will update on this thread as the day progresses. so far soooooo good.
wish my luck.
this will help other deaf dogs..around the world in the study.
my vet is doing the same thing at her house today with all her dogs..
we compare notes after all this is done today
How's it going Pat?
have you accidentaly spoken yet? Do you think your dogs think you've gone loopey?

Cathy
when she first came home
well 4 hours in and still not chatting to them...they are nappin
so I can catch up on the board now
all 5 dogs are sleeping
a first here EVER...
lol
the pugs are doing great with the signs.
Bella is still very stubborn but she is at least trying on special treats.
Gus does not get a treat everytime he does a hand sign. he is quite happy with a good pet..been doing that for awhile now but then again he is used to the sign language.
when he does a sign right and he knows it..........his tail just wags and wags..too cute
it is 5:00 pm now here...just a fast update
NO talking yet..
very strange not to talk to them
well the pugs are right in tune with me. I can not stress enough how the hearing dogs are really really watching me and using eye contact today. I guess that comes naturally with no talking..no sure.
the pugs caught on the hand signs really well.
Bella caught on to them too that she needed to anyway..the big ones
and Gus well he is pro anyhow..lol at them.
I have the plugs in for another hour or so.
it is strange not hearing them make noise..
you get a whole different feel for a dog when all you see is the actions of the dog.
cool though
been a good day
no talking till tomorrow
surviving soo far..lol
