Shedding! shedding!! shedding!!! and more shedding!

no joke. my dog sheds! profusely. she is the cutest little bully. but man this girl sheds. i thought it was a summer thing.....nope. its a winter thing. i literally can pet her and have a hand full of fur. enough to knit a sweater. everyone says different things about shedding. from diet til its natural. i see alot of bulldogs and ask their owners about their dogs shedding and seems most dont have a shedding problem like i do. What is the real deal on shedding and what can be done to help alleviate the shedding? thanks for reading. have a good day all.

Re: Shedding! shedding!! shedding!!! and more shedding!

i am feeding her natural choice. i have switched from that to IAMs, to a few others to see if that helps. it doesnt really. she is a year old and spayed. i never really noticed it when she was a puppy, but now shes older its very noticeable. i think i will give the fish oil a try. she literally sheds clumps of hair. i can just pull out clumps of hair. not that i try, but she sheds that much.

Is she spayed? My Clovis sheds like crazy when she is about to g

I can easily tell several weeks before she goes into heat because she will shed like crazy, just an amazing amount. How old is your girl and is she spayed?

try Omega 3 supplements

fish oil is an excellent source, so is flax oil. What kind of food are you feeding? Daily brushing will go a long way, and a furminator works exceptionally well, but it's not for daily long term ues.

I heard the furminator works and the Missing LINK is supposed to

I have pugs that really really shed. I belong to a pug board that suggested the missing link to help with shedding.
asked my vet about it and she says it really does help
the missing link
so my guys will be getting started on it

I also use a furminator..
and that really helps too

Bella the bulldog is not a shedder at all
Gus is more of a shedder but only in the summer..

Re: supplement

i give Remi fish oil pills, the same ones that i take, daily, and i've noticed his shedding slow a bit. plus its just good for them anyway. happy.gif

supplement

is it a suplement especially for dogs... I don't mean to be dumb, but I don't know much (read, NOTHING) about supplements...
I would LOVE to reduce Chloe's shedding...

shedding

Do you have her on an omega supplement?
what type of food are you feeding her?

I started giving Stella an omega supplement and it decreased the shedding by 90%.

I also bathe her once in a while, usually every 3-4 weeks and that helps get some of the excess off, and then a good brushing helps too.

How often do you bathe her?

Is her coat brittle and dry? Is she itchy? Give her a bath and try the supplements. I bathe my dogs every week in summer and every two weeks in winter. It removes dead hair and they feel soft and don't shed much. I use Chlorhexiderm Shampoo which is soap free and mild enough to use daily if needed.

Baths are not only good for removing dead hair, they also give you a chance to look over your dog and feel for any unusual lumps or bumps or sores in creases or folds and between toes and under pads.
