Submitted by Anonymous on April 20, 2010 - 5:26pmThank you all for your concern about Samson. I am sorry that I could not get here sooner. It has been a very busy day. I took in another rescue today. I had to get him introduced to my dogs, and get him settled in, and then an hour drive to the vet, another hour drive back home, late dinner, etc. etc. But I am here with some news.
Samson had his heartworm treatment yesterday. They did a blood test this morning for the microfilariae. Unfortunately the test came back positive. So, Samson has to be kept very quiet for two more weeks and then he goes in again for another blood test. Please keep Samson in your thoughts and prayers for a negative test next time. He is entirely too sweet and loving to have to go through all of this.
And once again, thank you for all of your thoughts, prayers and concerns. It certainly warms my heart to know that there are lovely folks like you out there.

I'm sorry I didn't realize on your last post that he was being treated for heartworms. I now understand why the vet kept him overnight. Treatment for heartworms is very serious. They basically have to poison the dog to kill the heartworms and hope the dog survives the treatment. I have witnessed many dogs suffer through the treatment and survive, but it is very painful. Make sure you keep him absolutely calm. I will keep him in my prayers.
Glad to hear he's home with you.
I hope the test comes back negative next time. He's lucky to have you. Hope your new rescue is doing OK. hope you can get some rest.
