Roxie new sister is home!!!!!

Maggie Mae is home and she is adorable!! She is so sweet, and her and Roxie are doing really good!
But poor Maggie has not layed down or rested yet, she is really busy checking out everything and I think has some anxiety...she is panting Very Hard and drinking ALOT~ She has been really good about going to the door to go out, but doesnt stay out too long...I think she is afraid she might miss something...but she is staying so worked up....any advice on how to get her to calm down....its just the 4 of us(me, hubby,Rox, and Mag)
Also SHE HAS NO TAIL...im not kidding, nothing, zip zero...she has deep crevis of sorts that kinda leaks a little stuff...but the old owner said that she has never had a tail and that it just starting leaking recently...huh? any comments would be soooo very appreciated!!!...pics coming soon, it wont let me upload for some reason..

Re: Re: Patti, she is 15month..

Patti,
Its so wierd or im sooooo dumb..but its just a deep hole or pocket...but not a tail??? and it is I guess just very moist in there, I am trying not to stress her out by pokin and prodding but it seems not to be as moist and leaky this morning...she did finally rest last night after I put her in her crate...(in the study, so I couldnt get back on the computer without disturbing her) with a fan and no noise...she was so exhausted that she would be standing in her crate with her face up against the bars and her eyes closed and fall asleep standing up!!! She finally layed down but it took a while. Im going to do as you said and put some gold bond in there when she is a little more comfy with things..thanks so much and any and all advice is soooo appreciated!!

Can't wait for pic's Maggie

When Daisy gets worked up I just put her in her crate for 15 min or so to calm down enough to get her to quit panting so badly.

Welcome Maggie!!

Sharon,
I am so very happy that Maggie is home! I wish you many years of health and happiness with her.
My rescues always pant and carry on just as Maggie is doing. It is very stressful for them to have such a major change in their lives. The first thing that I do is let the new dog go where ever they want. I do not try to pet it or play with it or anything like that at first. Let her get used to the normal noises in the house, and the new smells. My last rescue was panting for two days!! But they will eventually settle down. Just try to be careful to not stress her in your daily routine for a day or so. Give her a quiet place to go, and be sure she has plenty of water.
As far as the tail is concerned, my Dipper has no tail either. And she does not have a tail pouch. So if Maggie is like Dipper, I would have Maggie checked by a vet as soon as possible.
Again, Sincere Congratulations to you and your family.

Can't wait to see Maggie Mae

congrats.

Re: Patti, she is 15month..

You say she has no tail. Is it a deep pocket, and if you feel in there, you will feel a nubbin of a tail?? You will need to clean it and then may-be some Gold Bond powder in there to keep it dry. If it gets moist and dirty, then that is when bacteria can set in. But I don't understand, she was "dripping" stuff from the "tail hole"? Was it just so dirty, or oozy??

Patti, she is 15month..

and I took her to the groomers today and she cleaned it thoroughly and tryed to express her anal glands..they were empty...i have cleaned the area with a baby wipe several times and it doesnt bother her at all...what kind of medicine do you think she needs??
thanks so much,

Welcome Maggie!!!

I have no advice for you but wanted to welcome Maggie to the Family. I am sure she will calm down shortly! Please post pics as soon as you can...thanks.

Welcome Maggie

Cant wait to see pictures of you. I agree with Patti you should get the tail checked.

How old is she???

I would have that "tail" pocket checked, sounds like it needs a good cleaning and medicine.

You need to put her in a crate, or somewhere quiet and alone, or just with you for a while. This is all overwhelming, new home, new people, new dog, etc.....She will work herself up quite easily stressing. She needs some quiet time, plenty of water, but without all the commotion. You might just go into the room with her, talk to her calmly so she settles down.

not much advice here, just wanted to welcome Miss Maggie!

can't wait to see the pics!

Re: Roxie new sister is home!!!!!

If you are a person who has crates for their dogs, I would put her in her crate with a favorite toy or some food, so that she can just relax and settle down a bit. Congratulations on your new addition and I hope everything works out with her tail.
