sooo im making Remi a new bed (as many of you notcied with my last post) and i figured i'd share the fabric for the cover. I'm excited about it. Im going to make it square, and add some piping around the top and bottom edges to keep clean lines and a HUGE bag of super soft stuffing. He'll love it
the top and bottom will be this fabric, and the sides will be another less busy pattern.
its sooo easy!
You would be able to do it im sure. I picked it up on my own out of no where. Once you start its hard to stop!! I make Remi stuff all the time, collars, toys, beds, leashes, you name it!

awesome pattern!
I love it! I think I might make my mom teach me to sew so I can make things for my future bulldog! Love that pattern.
One very important thing is missing . . .
in very LARGE letters, you have to sew in "GO SAINTS!!"

fabric warehouse! I'm not sure if you can buy the fill online, but you should def check it out!

Noelle ??
Where do you find the fill in a big garbage bag size? All I can ever find is the tiny bags and it would take like 20 or more to fill that bed. Which is gonna be very cute, BTW.
Seam Ripper
I've been sewing since I was 8 years old, gosh over 40 years now.
You are so right....always wash the fabric first and you can't live without a seam ripper. LOL!
So sorry
that you're family is dealing with an illness. =(

I think it's good that you are considering your family's wishes right now.

LOL! Just ask if you have questions
I have been sewing for 22 years, and the past few years have traded my girls' dance studio costumes for competition dance costs. Things I think you should know before you get started:

wash and dry your fabric first. You will want to wash your dog bed cover, and it would really suck if it shrunk AFTER you made it. Plus if you use a zipper or velcro to fasten it, they will NOT shrink with the fabric.
Do NOT use velcro with the self adhesive, it won't stick to fabric and it makes a MESS if you try to sew through it.
Use a denim or leather needle in your machine.
Don't forget to add seam allowances in your measurements! Standard patterns use 5/8", but when I make my own patterns I use 1/2 inch. Anything smaller does not leave you with much room for fraying, or taking it apart if you make a mistake.
Get a seam ripper, it is SO worth it!

Re: :)
I am planning on getting one in the near future. I was hoping to get one soon, but my brother, who I live with, has become very sick with cancer, and my family would prefer that we wait until we have a better idea of his prognosis before adding a dog. I personally think it would cheer him up and give him a fun distraction, but I don't want to anger the other people in my household, so for now I must wait.
I'll just sew five hundred beds in the meantime! Yeeeeah.
:)
do you have a bulldog picked out? or are you just planning on getting one in the near future. You honestly can NOT go wrong with a bulldog. I will never own anything else!

thanks Cathy and Noelle!
I think I will give it a try! You are right, a dog won't care about how it turns out (and will probably just pee and chew on it anyways!) so it's a great first time project.

Oh hooray! I can stop waiting in vain for my bulldog to come and fill my lonely hours with arts and crafts

XXOO
you could do it!
it's not hard at all. My daughter used to help me sew when she was 14 and I had a deadline to meet and needed extra help, and she was sewing dance costumes. Dog beds would be a great thing to start with, all straight lines, and your dog won't care one bit if it's a little crooked.
