tho this is a somewhat rare occasion in which the movie follows the book quite closely. But the book is just too good of a ghost story to not read.

How have I never heard of this movie before?? I love classic actors (I know all those guys!) AND Peter Straub!

I must find this movie.

it's also one of my most favorite movies ever. It's been old now. I think it was made back in the 1980s. It's set in a small town in New York state. Four old men who have been friends since they were kids formed a private club they call the Chowder Society. Once a month they meet and take turns telling each other a ghost story. As old men, they are all very accomplished. One is a doctor, two are lawyers, and two are very successful businessmen. But then they get caught in a real ghost story when the ghost of a beautiful young woman they knew when they were college age comes back to haunt them as old men for something they did to her. The movie flashes back from the current time when they are old back and forth to when they were college aged.

The cast is just great. Fred Estaire, John Houseman, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., and Melvyn Douglas. You may not recognize those names but all were pretty big stars at one time or the other, especially back in the 1940s and 1950s. Alice Krige plays the young woman/ghost. She used to be a regular on one of the Star Trek series. Not sure, but I think she played a Borg Queen, or something like that.

The movie is very, very atmospheric too, set in upstate New York during a very cold and snowy winter. A few weeks ago I started reading the book again, for about the 5th time. It's written by Peter Straub, who co-authored some novels with Stephen King.

our weather has not seemed like winter here..
been a bit cool but no great amount of snow or much of anything..
the other day said to MY son all I want is too see a good Canadian winter..not all the inbetween rain and crap that we have been getting..
well it started to snow that day and has not stopped and the weather went from 30F to -30C with the windchill..how is that for a wish..lol.
now if there was a way to take it back I WOULD..

should have only half wished..

I'm not into blood and gore, I don't find that scary, just gross. I am downloading this movie as we speak, along with Paranormal Activity. Thanks for the awesome movie tip, Gary! Feel free to send some more ideas my way - I'm always itching for a good spookfest

The other seasons are lovely, though. And I think we experience a kind of yearly amnesia, because everyone magically forgets how atrociously cold it gets. We are shocked and surprised, every year. LOL!

but this is really frigid out there
Chloe I think is Canadian too..
it is really really cold out here ...and blowing snow and downright miserable..
the dogs do not waste time out there in that cold..fastest pee on the planet..lol

summer can be hot and humid here..too.. not that many days needed the air last year though...
fall and spring is beautiful here...really really nice out there..perfect for a bulldog..

current horror movies. It has a nice twist ending too. And lots and lots of snow! If you belong to Netflix, it's probably on there.

I want to know to make sure I never move there, lol. Of course, a lot of people up north would never want to live where I am becuz of the terrible heat and humidity in July and August.

and . . . wow, that is cold! We're getting down to 27 degrees tonite, which is nothing for you but miserably cold for us.

I do feel so sorry for stray and wild animals on nights when it's that cold.
