Here is a good story.
After spending all this money - Butch and I figured - what the heck and made an apt with a pet psychic that my friend Lindsay has used. Criticize if you want - but they are considering discharging her THIS WEEK NOW!
The psychic sent her healing energy. She talked to her and told her to help assist with her healing. She also - without being told anything except her age, breed, name, and markings told us where the pup felt pain....she said "near her heart if felt like she was collapsing" ---the lung lopes most affected are by her heart! She also said that she is "twisted to the left." Georgia has spina bifita and her hip is affected on that side....!!!! Without knowing anything about her condition, she said that Georgia was talking about them "filling her up with air."
The next morning, Georgia's dr woke me up out of bed to call and tell me that she had a pulse ox of 98% at one point. Now, with lung scarring, they said they never thought this pup would EVER have a that level of ox in her lungs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Coincidence?!
She also told me some very interesting things about my other babies. If you want to email me for details - I will tell you more and give you her name, etc.. She perfectly described Maggie's spine - piece by piece. She also made mention to a dog in Butch's childhood and was completely correct. Too many details to list here.
WORTH EVERY PENNY -- This woman is the real deal!
Georgia is doing fantastic. We are thrilled. The staff at U of Penn is elated too.

at the bottom of that info..i think it basically says you can no
can you isolate where Clem goes for awhile..and keep the others away from there/
also it can indeed take a few times around on the meds..and a few months for the yard to be clear and safe from re-infecting...
the main reason I suggested a seperate area for Clem is when Georgia comes home..she doesn't need this to..poor baby..let me know what your vet says..I savor knowledge...smile...ce
That is great
alot of people would laugh at that, but I have seen some strange things happen with no explaination.
Interesting-
As long as it was the pet psychic on TV I think you are safe =)
I am glad things are looking wonderful and I hope you will share some more stories with us.

I have a headache.....
I have them all on flagyl. What I am unclear about is this - if it was in the yard, and they finish treatment, can the REinfect and how long after?
I am worried about paw-licking....I tried to bleach the yard, but what a pain in the *ss....
I guess I better call the vet...
Thanks again!
Kris
here is a bit of information from my files..
I personally have never had to deal with it..but i know when I was doing some traaining for re-hioming at a shelter..thye had an outbreak..and it took constant monitoring...but then they had ocer 30 pupsters...and kennels...ce

How can infection be treated?
Infection may be traeted using one of a number of drugs. Unfortunately there is no treatment licenced for the control of giardias in dogs, though fenbendazole (Panacur, Hoechst Animal Health) is licenced for treatment of worms in dogs.
Whatever treatment is chosen, it is very unlikely to eliminate 100% of the infection in all dogs. Adaptations that may be made to try to improve the success rate of a treatment regime include extending the duration and dose of the treatment. Care must obviously be taken with this approach to make sure that an adequate safety margin is always maintained. Another approach is to retreat after an interval of one week. Alternatively, repeat faecal samples may be collected one week after the treatment and dogs which are still passing cysts can be identified and treated. It should be recognised that, when treating a large number of dogs, whichever of these treatment strategies is adopted, there may be one or two dogs that remain as carriers of infection that will act as a potential sources of infection in future.
Treatments for Giardias in dogs
Drug Name Trade Name Dose Rate Duration of
Treatment
Metronidazole Flagyl 25-30 mg/kg bid** 7 days
Furazolidone Neftin 4 mg/kg bid* 10 days
Tinadazole - 44 mg/kg once daily 7 days
Fenbendazole Panacur *** 50 mg/kg once daily 3 days
Albendazole Valbazen 25 mg/kg bid 2 days
bid Twice daily
* Maximum daily dose 200 mg
Contra-indicated in pregnancy
Licenced for the treatment of worm infections in dogs
How can infection, once present , be controlled?
Once infection is present in a kennel, control may be approached in two ways:-
1. identification, isolation and treatment of infected dogs.
2. mass treatment of all dogs.
Option 1 is only practical where a few dogs in a discrete area have been identified as being infected and where complete isolation is feasible. Such isolation includes segregation of exercise areas and thes animals should be fed and cleaned after all others on the premises, preferably using separate cleaning and feeding equipment and separate staff if possible. Treatment of all dogs should commence on the same day .
Thorough cleaning of all kennel area where infected dogs have access is essential. Once organic debris has been removed, thorough disinfection will help to further reduce the level of environmental contamination and reduce the risk of dogs becoming re-infected after the completion of treatment. Disinfectants containing quaternary ammonium compounds have been found to kill Giardia cysts at the manufacturers' recommended dilutions (dilutions of one disinfectant up to 1:704 were found to be effective at both low and high environmental temperatures). Efficacy of killing is increased by prolonged contact time, therfore disinfectant solution should be left for 20 minutes to half an hour before being rinsed off kennel or run surfaces. Since disinfection of grass runs is impossible, such area should be regarded as contaminated for at least a month after infected dogs last had access.
Introduction of new dogs into the infected area should be avoided until the period of treatment and faecal samle checking has been completed. It should not be overlooked that some of those infected dogs may continue to excrete low numbers of cysts even after all treatments and examinations have been completed. It is therefore important that rigorous disinfection is maintained and a careful check is kept on the condition of all treated and introduced animals.
We're glad Georgia is feeling better too:)

Oxygen
It was a 92% last time I heard. She is in room air now. I am just so stunned. Naturally I am ready to PAY to keep her there another week. I don't want to take chances!

Clemmie
Her eyes look so much better after we started the cyclosporine drops.
She is adjusting well. VERY affectionate. She just rests most of the day. Perfect lady!
She is positive for a bladder infection and Giardia. Do you have any experience with this? I bleached the floors and put everyone on flagyl as a precuation, but naturally I am nervous about it....
Kris
AWESOME!!!
So glad Georgia is doing well! I would love to get the details on your pet psychic. Did she have to meet your dogs, in person? I actually applied for Animal Planet's Pet Psychic show, but was rejected
Please give me the details. If only dogs could talk
