rawhide and pigs ears

Is it safe to give Bulldogs rawhide and pigs ears? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

yikes, I didn't know they were actual bull STICKS!?!? ...

I guess only the cows are laughing now...

good to know, she has been eating Carrot and Peanut Butter ones.

although she seems to be ok with them (except the Carrot ones were obvious in her poop - if you kno what I mean, LOL)

HARD Nylabones are fine. =)

She just means the edible kind that disintegrate and get digested. They honestly creep me out. They don't look like they should be EATEN. My mother in law gave one to Grover when he stayed with her... he was puking it up for days. (And had some pooping issues to boot!)

I stick with freeze dried liver treats and doggie biscuits for special "Treats" and hard plastic, non-edible Nylabones for chew-time.

Ahhh, so what kind of chews/treats are safe?

I had read in all my bullie books that Nylabones were ok so that's what she has...

LOL.....my husband has a strong aversion....

to Bully Sticks!! He cringes when I suggest getting some....it's the thought of what they are that gets to him. I've always wanted Chalmer to try them, thanks for the link, maybe I'll just let Chalmer have them when Daddy's not home!!

No never

Theo gets nylabones and loves them.

they chump they into a couple of large pieces..and swallow and c

at least that has been my experience with all of my yelpsx6 gang...so I don't offer them either...(same with the greenies)mine also love the Jumbones...they don't last long..but my gumbo gang can only get tiny bites off at a time...when they get small in the trash....
no rawhides here either..my neighbors dog actually died from a piece lodge ..and my have almost choked..they get slimy and stick to the thoart....ce

Kris, why not edible Nylabones?

I thought those were supposed to be safe for bullies?

No no no...

their jaws are too strong so they end up breaking pieces off before they dissolve it with their saliva and those can get lodged in their throat. Stick to Nylabones.

Bully sticks

http://www.bullysticks.com/ We give bullysticks.

Occasionally I will give the huge pressed rawhide in my presence ONLY . No greenies, no edibly Nylabones and nothing else. I have witnessed Major stuff things down his throat and vomit them back up - a little scarey....

Kris

not here --

I will never give them.

Not the Best for Me

My poor Bullie, Homer, absolutely loves pigs ears and rawhides, but the silly guy has never quite learned the whole "chewing" thing. If he thinks it is small enough to cram down his throat, he's darn sure going to try. After having to literally pry large remnants out of his throat, we have restricted his rawhide chewing to very large bones. He can chew on these for hours without making a dent. However, when he starts to pry them apart they go into the trash. Many dogs (especially those that understand how to chew before swallowing) do just fine with these "dangerous" treats, but just not my Homer.

No....not good

Pig ears can break easily, into sharp pieces. Rawhide can be chewed down and choked on too. If you have a large rawhide, and only let the dog have it when you are there to watch, that is fine. But, never leave him unattended with a rawhide. Many Bulldogs have choked on it, or chewed off a piece that they swallow and has caused seriously problems, or death.

and remember she is still little..but as she grows so will her a

thats what Mojo did with those softer nubby nylas...he loved them ..and they were great for when he was using us like a crazed landshark...we just popped of of them in his mouth ..but now..chump..and pieces...so we can not give them to him any more....just food for thought ..so to speak...lol...ce

Abby threw up after having an edible nylabone!

So I took it away and no more edible nylabones. I bought her a rawhide long stick and I only let her have it when I am with her and I hold it the whole time and trim the ends. Frannie gave that idea.

Rawhide/Pigs Ears

I agree, plus these are usually processed in a third world country where they do not watch what is used in the processing.
