Question on behaviour. HELP

I thought bullys were not supposed to be watch dogs!!! LOL Today my pest control guy came to spray and I want you to know that Emmy (4 1/2 months old) DID NOT LIKE HIM AT ALL. She growled and barked the whole time. I finally had to crate her when she was acting aggressive towards him..... AT 4 1/2 MONTHS????!!!! Do I need to worry, is this a bad thing. I hope she doesnt turn out to be mean Now I am worried.

he warns until we show him otherwise.. : )

.

So Glad Arthur is a good Watchdog.....

our house was broken into a few months ago and we were all sleeping in the bedroom just down the hall.
Norbert just snored through the whole thing, not much for watching when they are sleeping He didn't even notice the policeman in the house until he said something, Norbert was on the couch trying to wake up. He's not much for mornings. Reminds me of one of my sis's kids when he was little and it would take him hrs of snuggling on the couch with a blanky to wake up or when they get older and you can't drag them out of bed to get to school.

Bullies make fantastic watchdogs...protective of their peeps!!..

Arthur accepts who we accept, and doesn't who we don't. He had to learn this, although it really wasn't hard. He will let us know when a stranger is
around, but will settle down when we show him we
want the individual present.

Good Luck

Deb, you are right

No dog is 100%. No matter how well socialized or what we have exposed them to, there can people, objects or situations they just can't handle.

Sometimes it could also be just the person....

We had a springer, well socialized, Am & Can Ch, CD and he hated any man with a hat on or that limped. Go figure, I'm sure it was also fear.
My bullie doesn't like anyone that comes on the porch carrying something. He scared the heck out of a guy that wanted to wash our windows. He was carrying a bucket and long sticked squiggy, Norbert went after him like he was going to eat him alive. I don't think Norb would ever bit anyone but he can sure sound and look vicious sometimes. He's also well socialized, I've taken him everywhere I go since he was a wee baby.

Lisa, stop socializing Emmy,

or I'll be out of a job. Seriously, thanks. I love to hear about social butterflies. Proper socialization at a young age makes a huge difference in the rest of a dogs life. I would need pages to write down all the unwanted behaviors that develope from a lack of or improper socialization.

Thanks and have fun

Lynn K

This was the first time

she has ever acted that way. She usually doesnt know a stranger... I take her with me everywhere and she just bullybutt wiggles and kisses everyone. It probably was fear. I know it was strange behavior for her. Thanks for the advice.

Emmy

Lisa,

I believe her aggressive behavior was probably fear based. A strange man, strange vehicle, carrying strange things etc. So much of how our dogs act is actually more of a reaction to the way we are handling a situation. Socialize her more. When a person that is unknown to her comes to your yard or knocks on the dog, or approaches while on a walk, talk in happy tones, give a treat to the person to give to Emmy. Stay relaxed and friendly.

Good luck

Lynn K

tough girl

Has she done this with anyone else? Has she greeted other strangers friendly?

I'm not sure what to suggest... but wanted to respond and say hi

I'm sure someone more knowleadgable will respond with good advice.
