Question about growling

Hi Guys, tonight first off I get home and find out Mollys incision opened and she was bleeding, so off we went to the vet, to have them fix it, shes good now, BUT we are having the worse problem with her peeing, she cannot seem to control her pee, shes peein EVERYWHERE we are about to pull our hair out, she is going like every 15 minutes, she peed on her bed to .. the doc thinks its becasue of the surgery, but she didnt start doing it til today...

Also, each time Molly has a bone and we try to take it away from her , she will put her head on top of it and growl and if you try to pull it she will bark and growl again and keep her hold on it, we have yelled and tried everything to stop this, do you know why she would be doing this? She does the same thing when she is laying in our bed and we pick her up to put her in her crate... Need advice

Hi Ce- She is peeing like crazy, we got up this morning and she

because there are two different spots, she hasnt went in her cage in ages, we take her outside and as soon as we get out the door she goes on the deck like she cant help it. We dont even want to really let her out of her cage because we fear shes goin to pee on the sofa! She peed on her bed and I nearly died, we just bought the dang thing!!! LOL I just hope she doesnt have an infection, when we took her to the doc they said its normal after surgery, so we'll let it go for a few days, and if she is still peeing like mad, then we will take her, she didnt start this til last nite when she opened her wound.

ouch..glad Miss Mollys been repaired....long

about the bone and the bed....You might want to change a couple of things and see how it goes...first don't yell at her...it just excites dogs more to be yelled at...but in a very deep Low slow almost growl...chose one word that you 'all' will use consistantly when you really mean business ...I use "surrender" on MoJo and each time he gets to carried away...biting, growling..any behavior I want stopped Now..I growl a slow low Surr-e-nn-der at him while I gently but firmly ...put my hand on the back of his neck ..and one one his bum..and down he goes to the floor and I keep my hands on him and he stays there and I repeat surrender every time he struggles or tries to move..when he goes limp..I slowly relax my hold..and start soft talking him..with be sweet...be sweet...then I remove my hands....and if he is sweet or calm...then I hug him or tell him good boy ..and just pay him attention ..if he starts the behavior I corrected him for...boom back down..and I once again growl surrender...this has taken many times and every time he does something..no exceptions...be consistant... of repeated behavior..and now when I say surrender he plops himself down before I can get my hands on him...chuckle...Molly has to know that there are some rules you will enforce..and some things she can not ever do..can not bite..can not growl when you take something from her..or move her..also when you do take something from her..take it...look at it and give it back...if she growls boom surrender...if she doesn't then give it back and tell her what a good girl she is...do this several times a day..she learns you will return it to her...to trust that you will return it to her..and no she can not growl at you ..the two leggers are the alpha..always...good luck...and hugs to Molly ..as for the peeing i know it's a bother..but the surgery is invasive..and it might take a bit for her to get control...give her a few days...for now try to ignore it..and take her out more then normal..I don't think she can help it...right now...hugs...ce

We've always made sure....

We've always made sure with all our bullies that as they chew on their toys, bones, etc. That we are able to touch, hold the objects. We've taught them to let us kiss them on the muzzle even though they have the object in their mouths.

Growling

Frannie,

It is fairly common for a dog to get a Urinary Tract Infection after spaying. Get a sample ASAP to your vet. It only takes a short period of time for the meds to work.

Growling issue - it is called Resource Guarding. It does not get better if you don't work with her now and it can get to be a serious problem. Resource Guarding is one of the lessens we teach in classes. Do not get into a war of the wills with her. Get a treat, something really good, put in under her nose, when she releases the bone, take it and give her the treat with tons of praise. You can use a cue word like "give", "drop it", "out". Practice frequently with bones, toys etc. She will learn to relinguish any item willingly on cue.

How is she around her food dish?

Good luck

Lynn K
