Question about ALLERGIES!!!!

HI again, sorry to go on and on about this issue but everyone who responds to my posts gives me EXCELLENT advice, and I greatly appreciate it.....Just one quick question please!

When you switch you bullies food due to allergies, how long does it take to see results?

I just switched Bubba from NB fish and potatoe to NB Venison and potatoe 2 days ago.
He still gets really red eyes and red gums right after he eats and its only after he eats, it just happened again when I went home at lunch and fed him....Should I give him more time to asjust to the new type of food? It just worreis me because he turns red right after he eats....

Thanks again for reading and offering such useful advice!

I had the same issues

Josie was eating both of those blends. She had some real bad skin issues, and pink face and pink eyes after eating. I took all her green beans and yogurt away as well to start from scratch. Switched to teh NB Chicken and SP and the pink has gone away. I put some green beans back and the pink started up. put some yogurt back and the pink started up. she gets just kibble and NB cookies for a treat. If chicken is on the menu for the night she will get roasted chicken as a snacker. I was amazed at the difference. Tamsen

Duck and Potatoe

but they have others that do not contain potatoe. I would try that. A friends bullie eats that and it works great. You should be able to take the bag you just bought back and exchange it.

Are you using a metal bowl to feed him?

They can react to the plastic bowl too. (just when you think you have thought of everything).

Have you tried the California Natural dog food? I hear it is really good for allergies.

As far as I know...

Unless you make your own meals, the only food that I was able to find without potato was Nature's Variety Instinct. It has tapioca - the one thing that doesn't stir up allergies.
But, it's hard to know if it's the potato that's causing the issue.
Q has an intolerance to potato, but does OK if the food has more sweet potato than white. They're all different, though. Good luck!

without the sweet potato..there is difference between that and..

regular potato..
I would try to find something with rice and see how that goes..
or for now just cook him rice and chicken for a few days
that way you WILL KNOW IF IT IS THE FOOD that you are using that is causing the issue for sure..

Very good idea! Thank you!

What I m gonna do tomorrow is try a small bag of something without potatoe and hopefully that will work....Keep your fingers crossed!

Yep! He does really well

when I boil chicken and rice for him....Such a good idea! I am going to try something without potatoe...I wonder if NB makes an allergy food with rice instead of potaoe....Thanks!!!

maybe it is the sweet potato..what about this one..

http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/dogformulas/PandD.html

that is their limited diet
for duck and potato..
not sweet potato..
which they also sell
just get the straight potato and duck..

That's a good idea, he does good

when I boil him chicken and rice........I think I will try that tomorrow! Thank you that makes perfect sense, I can't believe I didnt think of that!!

lamb is very easy on the gut ..that is why I suggested that..but

you could still try a few cans of chicken and rice formula..
they have other limited diets with the same company
try to something with just rice..
or try to add cooked chicken, rice and green beans at home..
at least for a couple of days and see how it goes...

I think rice is the answer here..and get rid of the potato all together and see what happens..

seems like everything you have tried has potato in it

have you tried plain cooked chicken and rice?

What do you feed him?

RIght now Bubba is on NB venison and potatoe, its a grain free allergie food....thanks!!!

Well-----

Unfortunaltely I don't have the money to afford the allergy test. SO that will have to wait. I may just go buy a small bag of a different food and see if the same thing happens...Hopefully it wont.

Well I'm scared about the lamb--

I tried that last February and in march he was diagnosed with intestinal ulcers, my local vet said it was due to his diet, but the bulldog specialist said he thought maybe Bubba got into something which caused the ulcers, either way I'm nervous!!!

I have to agree with allergy testing at this stage.

Amber, before you spend any more on dog food, try an allergy test at your vets. That would at least help eliminate certain foods in his diet if it turns out to be diet related allergies.

Sounds like a potatoe allergie

Take the bag back and exchange for one without potatoe. Allergie formula, Mason is great on this stuff and at one point thought he might be allergic to air...(ok not really but it sure fells like it at times)

if he is.....

eating the food and having an reaction....it does not matter how long you have him on the food he is allergic to something.....a reaction that fast is not going to go away.i would give him some benadryl....are you sure its not something other than the food...dish soap? but if he is eating and then breaking out that fast.....the food change is not going to make a difference....
i would get him allergy tested before buying another brand of food....

can YOU GET a photo of him when this happens..

might help to see him..and get some other ideas to help you..

is it the potato Amber maybe???

sure is sounding like it must be something with the potato

Natural balance has ..restricted ingredient diets..
try to get the one that has just lamb, rice and sunflower oil
they sell them..
very very simple diet..
that way the chance of alergy is very very low..

I would look for something with rice..

maybe you could get a can and see how it goes..
I am sure that this food with limited ingredients comes in cans and see how it goes..
try it first and see
