Hi,
I have an EB that is 10 weeks old that I bought from an experienced breeder. I noticed that when I run with him his back legs sort of run to his right.
Is this symptomatic of his growth or is this something else. I am very concerned and would appreciate any advice especially to my email address (puffswami@hotmail.com
thanks, Mark
THANKS for advice; rechecked GAIT
He seems to be coming at me sidewise as if on back leg is dominant over the other. Mainly this only occurs when he runs so I figure he is just trying to get used to his legs. When standing still he has a beautiful posture and no indication of faulty gait. From your advice I think it is breed specific and will straighten out over time.
THANKS
Try just walking first.,....
and when that straightens out, increase the speed slowly as he get used to moving straight...can even use two boards to walk between to force straighter walk...I start my show dogs our very slowly and easily...they need to be leash broken and walking straight line, sort of, before they can try to trot that line....running is generally silly and sloppy with a puppy and sometimes they even sort of bunny hope in rear...if you are working on show ring, go slowly and increase speed gradually...also, I use a ladder flat on ground to teach them to walk between objects and to get hang of even movement...after they are walking and beginning to trot more or less straight.
Good luck...they are such fun though at that age aren't they?

Judy J.....Sidewise
meaning...the roll of the body (over croup/loin)being sidewise or from side to side. Giving the classis roll.
gait
From the standard:
The style and carriage are peculiar, his gait being a loose-jointed, shuffling, "sidewise" motion, giving the charcteristic roll.
If this is what he is doing, it is correct.
I agree Deb..
you should be able to see the back feet between the front..
This could be
sidewinding. The dog should not move in a sideways motion. He should move in a straight line with his hind feet closure in the rear and his front feet wider then his hind feet. When you look at him from the front you should see his hind feet between his front feet. I hope that makes sense.
If you go to the home page...under Breed standard, there is a video clip of proper gait/movement.
walking sideways?
Bulldogs gait is to appear to be coming at you in a sidewise motion. Is that what your pup is doing?
