Please Pray for Little Daisy

Our almost 9 week old puppy that came home on Sunday completely collapsed and became unresponsive this morning. I ran her to the animal hospital 1/2 mile away in my pajamas and socks and she awoke a little about half way there. They say she has pneumonia, possibly kennel cough but I have no idea how she would have gotten that. Her breathing is very bad and they have started her on IV antibiotics. They say her trachea is too small and they do not have an ETT small enough to intubate her. Her prognosis is very bad but I am praying that with the antibiotics she may get better.

Please say prayers for our little Daisy, we are devastated, she is so adorable and playful, a wonderful little bully. Thank you!!!!

Prayers on the way for baby Daisy.

Wishing you the absolute best outcome in this. My Sophia had severe pneumonia as an 8 week old baby. She was incubated for 4 weeks and came home still ill, but she DID recover. Best wishes and heartfelt prayers coming for you guys.

I'm so sorry. My Bulldog, Angel also...

has a trachea too small to ever to be intubated. He also had pnemonia when he was a puppy. We rescued him when he was 14 weeks old. He also was so very ill with pneumonia. He also received IV antibiotics, and after that was on Zithromax.

Angel will be 6 years old on February 1.

Please know I am sending so many prayers to you and your beautiful puppy. The power of prayer from the people on this Bulldog board is powerful. I remember when so many people prayed for Angel when he was so ill, and I really think it helped.

Will will keep that little sweetheart in our thoughts...

and you too!! Poor thing!

Oh no!

Poor thing - and what a great mom you are running her to the vet in your jammies.

Once she stabalizes, you might want to bring her into your special bulldog vet (if you don't have one I'd look for one). Although emergency vets are good, they often don't know that much about bullies. Maybe a bully vet might have something to add.

Sweet little ding dong, get well, OK?!

Update

We just came from the animal hospital. There isn't much change so far, her heart rate is a little higher and her blood pressure is a little lower which isn't good, but she is fighting and trying to stick with us. We are hoping and praying that the little sweetheart turns this around and pulls through. Again, thank you for all your good thoughts, it can only help and we definitely appreciate it.

Prayers for Daisy

That is awful, I am so sorry this happening. I will keep her in my prayers.

Miracles are only a prayer away.

And I will be praying with all my heart for Daisy. No news is generally good news in these cases, that means the pup is at least still holding her own at this point.

No Change

Thank you everyone for your prayers for our beautiful Daisy. We can't stand to lose her. Dh is leaving for Afghanistan with the army in 2 weeks, and she and her mom are supposed to be my company and support while he is away for the next year. We are crushed, our much beloved Chloe passed away in July from a horrible brain tumor at the age of 10. (almost 10) We are in love with puppy Daisy and her wonderful mom, and can't stand the thought of losing her. I can't believe this has happened. Thank you all again for you prayers and kind words, we are hoping for a miracle.

DaisyNYC's picture

I know, sounds crazy.

Not only do they not have a neonatal size ETT, they don't have a pediatric ventilator. They are not proponents of using ventilators on dogs, but they are a huge teaching institution. I'm shocked they don't have them for emergency use. Still no change according to the vets.

DaisyNYC's picture

Not Sure

Hi. We got her and her moom from a breeder in Connecticut. They also show bulldogs and had a lot of very beautiful and healthy looking bulldogs. The contract only covers problems from birth defects, even though the vets believe she had this when we got her, I'm not sure if there is anything to do. We got her on Sunday, she was scheduled along with her mom to have a check up with our regular vet today and unfortunately all of this happened before we brought her in to see him. I am greatly distressed that if we possibly had her appointment yesterday this could have been prevented. Other than that the contract says it covers assorted things for 48 hours, and we are over that by 3 days. I only pray that she gets better, she is the sweetest little bulldog and we already adore her.

tmichaud's picture

Another thing to remember...

I don't know where you purchased her from but we purchased Sanford in NY and because there are "lemon laws" in place in NY to protect consumers from unscrupulous breeders and the like the place we purchased Sanford from had to pay our Vet bills for this care because we had him checked by the vet within 3-5 days of purchasing him and because he arrived sick they had to pay us over $1800 for his vet bill.

This will depend upon whether you have a contract or not which we did and all the lemon law information was detailed on the back of the contract.

I really hope she gets better. I totally know this is killing you because I felt the same thing.

Encouraging News

Thank you, that is encouraging news. The vets do not seem optimistic at all, but we are hoping for a miracle.

You think dogs will not be in Heaven? I tell you, they will be there long before any of us.

Are you in Manhattan?

If yes, maybe you should call Park East Animal Hospital and get their thoughts as well... that is who we took Sanford to when we lived in NYC. They did his neuter as well as an orthoscopic surgery to remove a toy from his stomach and he came out fine.

Additionally when I got Sanford he was also treated for kennel cough that progressed to pneumonia in the first week after we got him. He had to stay at the vets for 4 days and they also said his prognosis wasn't good. He did come through it so it's possible she will be ok. The vet that treated him for that was on the UWS, and I can't remember the name of the vet.

I'm sending good thoughts and prayers your way, I know exactly what you're going through right now.

luvwinnie's picture

Well, I've neve rbeen there but I would think they would have

the equipment she needs! I can't believe there isn't a tube small enough for her! Poor baby.

DaisyNYC's picture

Thank You!

Thank you for all of your prayers! There are no new updates from the vet, I will update if there is any change. Thank you again!

DaisyNYC's picture

Yes, she is at AMC.

Hi Michele. Yes, we are close by the AMC and that is where I ran her to. They do not feel she has a good prognosis, her breathing is very labored. I am praying that she turns around with the antibiotics. I am waiting for an update from the vet and will update you all as soon as I hear anything. Thank you!!!!!!!!
