Subject: Please crosspost to any lists..........DO NOT LET THIS WOMAN ADOPT.........

My apologies..........

Hi Everyone. A deaf white pit bull named Bunny was adopted out to a
Malissa Rivera on Saturday. She signed an adoption contract agreeing to
regular home visits and that she would return the dog to the rescue in
the event things did not work out. She was last contacted by the person
who did the adoption on Tuesday and said the adoption was going well.
That same day she surrendered the dog to a high kill shelter with the
South Hampton Animal Control.

The woman had excellent veterinary references and a positive
recommendation from the Riverhead Shelter where they adopted the other
dog they have now. The vet needs to be contacted and advised against
recommending these people in the future. He said "she spoils her dog
more than her own child." The Riverhead Shelter also needs to be
contacted.

The only reason the fact that Bunny was dumped at the kill shelter was
discovered is because she is fortunately microchipped.

I spoke with Malissa Rivera today and said I was a rescue person
associated with the person who handled Bunny's adoption. She told me
she was the baby sitter. I asked how Bunny was and she said "great." I
later left a message on her machine stating that I will be calling every
1/2 hour within the half hour as I am in the area and would like to see
Bunny. I also called and left several messages that the woman who
supports and donates a lot of money to Bunny's original rescue would
like to stop by and see Bunny. I said please be nice to Mrs.
Worthington when she calls because her money keeps 1000's of dogs alive
every year.

As of 12:00, a.m. last night these lowlife's were still trying to
pretend that Bunny was with them safe and sound. Now I guess they know
we know something is up as they are not answering their phone. This
just goes to show you that in follow ups phone calls are not enough.
Maybe its one in a million that would do this but anyone can say a dog
is fine. Go to the home and check for yourself on a bi-monthly basis
for the first year of adoption.

But even that isn't a safe guard. A dog can be surrendered to a kill
shelter and euthanized in less than a two week period. That is where
microchips come in. Consider using the adoption fee payment for a
microchip with your rescue's name, etc. The fact that Bunny was
microchipped saved her life in the event that her put down date would
have come before the first home visit.

Would it not have been easier for this piece of work for a human to call
and say take the dog back rather than pay a fee to surrender her to a
kill shelter? She also would have gotten her adoption fee back. Makes
you think she intentionally took a dog from a no-kill rescue to
surrender her to a kill shelter.

Please DO NOT ADOPT to this woman. There is no reason for her to have
surrendered sweet innocent deaf Bunny to a kill shelter. She was told
we would pick up Bunny any time of day or night should there be a need.
Why would she then pay money to surrender her to a kill shelter. She
knew adoption counselors would be by for home visits bi-monthly. This
is inexplicable.

There are unfortunately no laws punishing appropriately a breach of
contract to this extent. Please forward this e-mail to all rescues,
shelters, AC officers, etc. Her info is -

It didnt say breed kill specific

it just said high kill shelter.

It was on an email list bulldogfx

all I did was copy and paste.... I dont work in rescue, I just forwarded. I live in Texas.... and dont even know this person. Just trying to help save a bully.... and permission was given to cross post so it must have been ok to release the addy.

Thanks,
Lisa

She sounds like a sham who is breed kill specific... ???

.

what a horrible story....

But no matter how upset you are at this person, it is absolutly wrong for you to post someone's address and phone number on a bulletin board. In fact, you are probably outstepping your legal boundaries by doing so since you work at the adoption clinic. I hope the webmaster has the good sense to remove that part of your message.
