I'm so sorry to hear about the relapse, and hope that Fluff can find the strength to keep fighting. All of our thoughts and prayers must be worth something!

This is crazy. I hope that the vet can fix her soon. Poor baby. YOu guys take care of yourselves because when Fluff gets better she will need you to be healthy
I know more about people, but I expect she got an infection somewhere and it got in the blood and then her joints. It think it a bit unusual for it to be in more than one joint. This appears to be a bad infection that has gotten a stronghold in her. It sounds very touch and go. She is very sick. It is scary. She needs to bounce back soon, the antibiotics need to win the fight soon for her to make it. I am not sure why she got it to start with. Maybe Liz has seen this where she works, or others with more dog experience have seen it. If the bacteria could be identified, it might tell more where it came from. I am quite worried the longer it goes on with her so sick.
Prayers may work the best right now. For a positive culture for the vet to go on. For an additional antibiotic that will kill the bacteria. For Fluff's strength to fight.
Hey there, I know these is killing you and your husband. To watch fluff suffering uncontrollably with not much you loving parents can do. I remeber the same feeling when my Bully suffered from head tremors. The sight of these seizures was enough to make me depressed. I felt helpless, like a ****ty parent, but just when i thought i was done trying to help him and i had to accept he would live his entire life like this; everything changed. A great doctor researched a new seizure medication and prescribed it to him, and from the day forward (1yr ) he has been seizure free. So just when you feel defeated, hopeless, and drained grap hold of your heart and believe things can get better. You have to stay strong for your baby. I will pray for you, your family, and your baby.

As to how she got it, just picking up some bacteria, staph, etc. and it was able to get a stronghold. From what I understand, it is more common in young dogs, and then older dogs, for it to settle into the joints, etc. And, then it is really tough to get rid of. The temperature is because of the infection.
Margaret, perhaps you can explain medically better for me..
I hope she starts getting better and can fight this infection and the surgery is successful. Is there any idea why/how she would get an infection like this? I'm guessing that this is not common. If her temp continues to go up and down can this cause the infection to spread? Get well Fluff...Big Hugs and Prayers

Another tough night, temp going from 103.3 to 105.4. Up at 2 am to put her in the tub with cold water, and then in front of a fan. Temp came down to 103.3, then back to bed, and then at 6:30 it was back up over 105. Took her into the vets. But her in the ice bath, plus shots to bring her temp down, fan, etc. Then put an IV in for fluids.
Her right front shoulder is what started it last Sat., swollen with infection in the joint, not able to walk. Well, that is ok now, but what has flaired up in the last day is her right rear leg. The thigh is swollen twice the size, hard, and she can't stand. We did x-rays, then ultrasound. There is infection pockets/abcess in her leg. Her temp finally came down to 101, and she was sleeping, so I left and came home. My vet is going to do surgery this afternoon, to try to drain the infection in that leg. I have to call back after 5 pm to see how things are.
I'm hoping she can fight this and recover soon. John is very down, last night when the temp was going back over 105, he kept saying, "she's dying". Needless to say, we are both very beat. I will let you know when there is any updates.
Positive thoughts to you & Fluff!

I wonder if Zithromax (sp?) can be used on a bulldog?
It's pretty expensive, around $10 a pill, but I took some last year and was stunned by how effective it was. Sure hope it can help Fluff.
Wow I am so sorry
Such a tough battle but I hope she keeps fighting! Hopefully with a little help from the vet she can be rid of her nasty infection!

Try and get some sleep she will need you later. It sounds like it is going to be a long haul. So sorry she has to suffer so much.
