Ownership responsibility.....

.....Short to the point. I was contacted by a person who gave me this story about having 2 bullies and needing to get rid of them because of an ugly divorce. They got my info from a referral because I have bullies. I go checkout the dogs though not in the greatest health the owner shows me proof of taking them to the vet. ( I still call to verify)I'm willing to help out by taking the dogs but ofcourse they want money (discounted). Money is not the issue but when I requested any and all paperwork on the dogs he gives me the contracts that he had with the breeders he bought the dogs from. After reading the contracts and registration paperwork which shows that he has full rights to the dogs I get an ugly feeling inside me.

If I purchase these dogs do I have to contact the breeder to let him know the situatiion? I would like to contact the breeder to atleast let him know not to sell future dogs to the past owner but I surely don't want them to take the dogs away from me if purchased. Please any input is welcome.

MY pug.................

came out of situation just like this
he was dumped back at the breeders..he is rescued abused pug.
but the breeder did not want him back..she just wanted him to find the right home
most breeders would understand the situation..I think
give them a call
that is the right thing to do..

Even if it's not in the official contract, I still think you owe

... to contact them. Most bulldog breeders would be DEVASTATED to know of a divorce situation where someone they gave their pups to was SELLING THEM, not to mention getting rid of them.

Not that they would want them back necessarily, but they certainly deserve a call if they're good people. happy.gif

I would also....

contact the breeder, I have in my contracts that my bulldogs are to never be re-homed or re-sold, they are to come back to me. But I also sell my pups on limited spay/neuter. But definately would contact the breeder, as Cathy said, sometimes when people are trying to get rid of dogs, they can soemtimes "conviently" forget things like that. And could be they are embarrassed about the situation they are going thru, I personally would want to know.

Re: Ownership responsibility.....

If the dogs were sold on full registration with no clause in the contract requiring return of the dog, the owner can legally place the dogs with you. If I were you, I would contact the breeder to be sure you're getting the correct story. People sometimes "forget" a return clause in a contract. At the very least, the breeder should know where the dogs will be if you get them. Let us know what happens. Good luck.
