we are getting major dumped on here ..big time ..snow
can not even get snow pics till it stops some
LILIES need snow for cover to produce the beautiful flowers of the summer time. they are continually growing underground and even in the winter..
here is a pic of the ONE that made it into the Gardening Magazine.
the lily is a triumphator...
WAS sent to me in 3 bulbs from HOLLAND...
not supposed to multiply..but it did to NINE plants now
was supposed to get a total of 6 blooms at maturity on each plant and that would be 18...but had over 120 blooms last year.
in crappy soil too..LOL makes no sense..
they say it is likely from the salts of the winter on the driveway..that is helping it as well as the huge amounts of snow here..
here ia pic

and a close up of the flower..
this lily is a cross between a stargazer and trumpet lily..

I have 100's of lilies around the property here and this the ONE one that does it..call it a lily on steriods..LOL
I did..LOL...it is still snowing here..supposed to keep up most
be glad to see some sunshine..
looks like the sun might get out later today
gotta get out there and get some pics..
the flower is pride and joy..
love it
but only blooms in total for less then a week and half each year
fairly tall though..about 6 feet..was supposed to be 36 inches..
all my neighbours love the flower too...and wait for it to bloom each year..
beautiful flower Pat.... two feet of snow wow
I would have to stay inside all the time and stock up on alot of junk food to survive...lol

Had to PUT ICE On it..lol so the gardening mag could get their p
I had to slow down the blooming last year so the magazine could get here in time to get the pics of the lily.
the weather got really humid and lilies love that it was blooming far to fast..
so had to go out and dump ice on the base of the plant..it helped..
they got their pics..
HOLLAND WOULD love to have this lily bulb back..lol
it started the size of a tulip bulb..a few years ago...
and NOW is the size of a watermelon..
the babies are the size of a small melon..
they did probes on the ground and caused lots of fuss in the lily people..
but since the bulbs came from the same source and not the same bag..it had to be something else that caused the blooming to go nuts..lol
turns out to be the snow and salt..
Beautiful!!
I love lillies and those are just beautiful!!!

well they need this snow to grow big and blooom....
I went out today and told my lily
Happy GROWING..lol HOPE your happy with all this..as I put the snow on top of it some more..
the lily sits at the edge of the flower bed..and gets alot of snow put on it all winter long..
funny how the rest of the lilies do not do the blooming that this lily does
and it is rock hard crappy soil..
lilies do well without much water..
and crappy soil..too
what a NICE reminder of what's to come
when winter is over! What a beautiful lily! I used to have roses, then I moved to NC and have rocks and clay instead of soil, never mind years of drought and severe water restrictions. I gave up and let the crabgrass win.
