O/T: heated mattress pad versus electric blanket??

has anyone tried both? Which did you prefer? Would the mattress pad be comfortable for a bulldog to sleep on?

Thanks.

A bulldog with e Mattress pad (pic)

It works great for us

9.5 mos

Ours can use both way, blanket and pad, and I now use it as a mattress pad.

When I was a little child, over half century ago, there were no electric blanket or pad available and we used to put hot-water bottle wrapped with towel to warm our feet during cold night.

Honestly Gary...

Booger could never sleep on or under anything heated. He overheats so easily...

I personally wouldnt put a Bulldog on top of, or beneath a heated anything. JMO.

Speaking as the person who recommend the electric mattress pad..

I certainly wouldn't recommend it to someone who has multiple bulldogs on a bed. happy.gif

I recommend it for the HUMAN. I adore mine and have gone through 3 of them in 10 years. I cannot live without them because it allows me to keep the heat down but stay warm.

Bulldogs can't seem to control their need for heat, and don't know when enough is enough. Gretl cooks herself in front of the heater, in exactly the same way Grover did. I imagine both of them would have roasted their tummies on the bed and never gotten off.

I had a pet-version for Grover that functioned at a MUCH lower temp and only turned on when there was a dog on top of it. It was much safer for animals. I'd recommend that for their own beds. But, then, I don't let dogs on my bed. happy.gif

There is a risk with ANYTHING we run in our house. Appliances, dryers, electric blankets. I turn everything off whenever I can't attend it. happy.gif And I take my chances the rest of the time. Works for me.

I have a blanket...

I had a friend in high school with a heated matress pad, and it caught her bedroom on fire. She had left it on. I almost wonder if a pad would break down the wires in the pad faster than a blanket. So I have been leary personally. And I am ALWAYS double checking to make sure it is off before I go anywhere.

They sell heating pads just for dogs.

I bought one with egg crate foam, with a slit for the heating pad, enclosed in a zippered cover. You can buy the pad alone, but I wanted the egg crate for Holly. She doesn't use it, but Quincy is in the bed all the time.

Caution--Low temp burn--

I set the temp between low to medium and Gumpooh sleeps on the comforter.
Also, he is a roamer, roams here and there during night. happy.gif

Thanks, Julia for the follow.
