OT: A hawk in the pasture - for Pat

Archived General Bulldog Chat

I am not on often enough to have caught the hoopla... but was sorry to hear that Pat may have gone. I saw this bird out my back window today and thought of her, so I hope she's lurking. I don't know what it is, but it's a youngster. We have a mated pair of raptors of some sort that live in a pine and raise their baby every few years. This one was going out for a fly for his first time. The parents were flying and crying out their hawky sounds to encourage/warn it. I walked up to it within about 10' and it finally flew off.

that is fascinating. I have read a lot of things about how intelligent crows are. Did Merle live out his life by your house? Where did he sleep at night? Did he know Kung fu? Okay, skip the latter question. Unless he did, lol.

that's pretty cool Dawn! I raised a crow years ago.....birds are real characters too. He used to go from telephone to telephone pole when we rode our bikes around the block and then he started going out by himself. His name was Merle and he almost gave the neighbor about a mile away a heart attack when she was working in her garden and he tried to make a landing on her head. LOL Good times, hahah
